i named her spunky cuz when she was just 2 and a half months old i was taking a rest with her and my late boy nenz on a local hiking trail. 2 guys came around the bend uphill from us and my pup sat there growling as they approached. they were more worried about nenz, who just lay there placidly watching as they passed. i thought, hey, she has spunk. so i named her spunky. one of my favorite books as a kid was spunky's diary but jeanette oke, so i always liked the name. she is akc registered as zippy vom haus miller but all my friends like her name spunky.
fluffy is my 6 year old daughter's dog. when my gsd boy died, my little girl wanted a black girl poodle, a big one. so we got our standard poodle at age 5 months. emma wanted to name her furry. i said, i am not calling that dog furry. she said, but mom, she is furry!
lol.
we compromised. i get to call her fluffy as her first name but furry is her last name.

My former neighbors up the sttreet had a son with serious allergies and asthma. The got a labradoodle flown in from the midwest somewhere. It was the product of repeated breedings to get the right fur/hair. Just a 50/50 mix will likely not be hypo-allergenic. It was more like 75% poodle and 25% labrador. hey also had to be picky about the temperaments.
No doubt there are people just playing anateur hour for money and not really providing what allergic children need.
It did work and their son was so happy to have a dog that didn't make him sick. All he oher dogs made him sick. He was a little young for a placebo effect.
100% Poodles are not for everybody. Their temperaments are often very high strung.

Pharaoh, I think your statement is true for badly bred poodles, and unfortunately because of their popularity, there are a lot of bad breeders to sift through, but if we are talking about poodles from reputable breeders, no matter the variety, they make excellent, stable pets, and are not high strung. In fact I think a miniature or a standard is a great first dog for kids and a great first dog for families, providing they can afford the upkeep or can learn to groom themselves. Toys are nice too, but a little too small for most people, other than those who want to stick them in purses and cart them around everywhere (yuck).
The people breeding doodle anythings are doing it for the money. Around here the shelters are full of these doodles, and there are more and more all the time of these rejects. Most of them are thrown away because they are not hypoallergenic, or require too much upkeep, or were bought by impulse buyers who don't want them once the "newness" wears off. As a matter of fact I have noticed a large percentage of these "doodle" crosses are much more hyper than poodles. I believe this is because the idiots that are breeding them have no clue what they are doing, and don't have even rudimentary animal husbandry knowledge beyond "put a girl dog in with a boy dog and presto, we have $$$ puppies"

Doesnt even vaguely resemble a GSD to me.... doesnt even look like there was a GSD anywhere in its ancestry, generations back!
