momosgarage , I refer to it like that, because it is almost impossible to compare, as each dog is different, and each level of correction or pressure is different, and will be experienced by every dog in a different way, so it is almost impossible to train a dog one way and  GUESS how it would have responded with lower or higher levels of pressure, correction, or positive approach

certainly a agree that old style pressure training is outdated and more positive ways are very good for both dog and result

Thats my point, none of the acedemic articles are even going there.  You have to separate what Maria DeLeon is saying on her webpage from what the authors of acedmic articles are actually saying.  If Maria DeLeon hadn't posted a citation at the bottom of her blog, caliming her point was proven scientifically, we would not even be having this discussion.

I don't think I can paraphrase the situation any more simply, she basically has taken four unrealted articles, cut out a couple of sentences and then says "SEE I'M RIGHT".  Maria, the BLOG OWNER, is making claims you disagree with, not the individual studies she has referenced.  Which I already pointed out are just a small part of a much larger body of work.  I didn't read though everything published by the acedemic authors cited by Maria Deleon, so I can't say what they have changed, updated or modified since publishing articles that go as far back as 2004.  Thats a LONG TIME ago for this kind of acedemic work.

"...its pretty easy to make Maria DeLeon of SmartHund Dog Training sound like a blithering idiot with a biased agenda."

I got that in the first two sentences.  Rather than taking the information available and using that to form a conclusion, she starts with the conclusion and then uses only the parts of the information she can find that support it.

I led a group at our local humane society several years ago whose job it was to train and socialize many of the dogs there to improve their chances for adoption.  At some point, one of these self-proclaimed positive-reinforcement experts who had taken a class at Purdue showed up and convinced part of my group that my methods were all wrong.  Then there were two groups...my group with our happy dogs and their group with their dogs on gentle leaders.  After a couple of months, it was obvious whose methods worked better and with a greater degree of reliability from the dogs and it wasn't the gentle leader crowd.
