Vom Insel (Dot) You make me laugh, you of all people asking what to pay for a pup? You've been around a long time. LOL

I guess some of us are suckers. I paid one breeder here in the US $15,500 for 4 pups. I had great expectations for these dogs and I lost on all of them. I saved 4 years of overtime money to get the dogs. One had EPI along with other health problems. A female had no thyroid function. Another had such bad elbows that he couldn't walk And one of them was so goofy, "from a the time I got her, not from my upbringing" that we had to put her to sleep as she was dangerous. It was a hard and expensive lesson. I suggest you buy an older puppy one that can be screened for potential problems. Birdy...

Kreighauser, Im sorry that this happen to you. WOW! $3500 for a 12 week old pup? That explains how they can afford to keep such land that they have. All i can say is to keep waiting for the registeration papers... Do you happen to know the AKC Numbers for both sire and dam? if so did you called AKC to see if their were any request for litter registeration? if not try.... hopefully you wont get the 2 idiots that i had that LIED to me about litter requests from Sorelle vom sekullerhof (my bitches dam). At the time i didn't know her AKC number so i had to spell out her name... even used the "space" word and the two idiots that i was on the phone with told me that theirs no requests for litter registerions under her name... GUESS what?!?! On aug 16th I recieved a Snail mail from the breeder with Zambi's AKC papers to fill out... I filled them out... wrote them a nice check (decided to get the gold package) and waited for few days ( 2 weeks and a half) until i got Zambis registeration papers and Just today i recieved her AKC pedigree, which of course shows NO titles, no conformation titles, just names. I wish you the luck into getting your registeration papers.

What we seem to forget is like KriegHaus stated above when you do the conversion of what they paid almost $2600 for a puppy with shipping ect... They did not state weather the $2000 was USD or Euro if Euro they are around $3500 for a puppy with NO health guarantee. I would Gladly sell a puppy cheaper with NO guarantees but the American popoulation demands that we USA breeders guarantee hips and elbows, so of course we must charge higher prices for the puppies. On top of us USA breeders that are getting killed by the price of quality dogs in Europe plus the conversion. I feel a fair price for a Show Line for a pet/companion is $1500-2000 for show/working $2500-$3500. No 8-12 week old puppy is worth more than $3500 IMO.

Brittany: Yes, I have the AKC registration numbers of the dam and the sire. I happen to know that the kennel owner visits this board often, so I am sure I will be receiving hate mail soon after she reads this. I will wait for the conclusion of the police investigation before contacting AKC, because I doubt they will do anything anyway. I do know that she registered the litter, and refuses to give me my dog's registration because I threw a fit when she shipped the dog (whom I was told by her had it's AKC registration) with a contract for LIMITED REGISTRATION (never mentioned in all of our dealings, including when I told her I wanted a female to do show, Schutzhund and show with), which I had to sign and send back, or get no registration at all, which is what I ended up with anyway. INSANE!!!! Oh well, the court will surely see things as they are. I'd hate to be in her shoes now, as I am working with the police department and the Illinois Attorney General's office to try to get this matter resolved. Unfortunately, I am not the only one who has had this same thing happen to them with the same breeder. Never again. I will ask for copies of everything UP FRONT, and I suggest you all do the same. Any reputable breeder should not have a problem with this request. Grum: $ <<<< means dollars. I paid two thousand dollars, plus four hundred, eighty dollars for shipping & crate. The $50 was for the foreign dog registration through AKC. The TOTAL was $2530, and I feel that I was not price gouged. I received exactly what I was told I would (and copies up front!) I am completely happy. Well worth it in my opinion.

I hate to beat a dead horse, guys, but there is way too much money involved in this breed to keep out the shysters. If one could buy a nicely bred puppy for under $1,000 and IF adults didn't sell for the price of a 4 bedroom home with inground pool, the breed would be a lot better off as there would be far less people "breeding". Of course, you might want to add if there was no market for these over-priced pets, those in it only for the money would be forced to move on to a more lucrative breed or may ever be forced into getting a real job instead of wholesaling dogs like they were livestock.

Hi Brit. I'm so happy that you got Zambi's registration papers.

by D.H. on 02 September 2005 - 17:09

Yes congrats Brit. But it does show that flying off the handle publicly my not always be the best way to go. Some things just take time. BTW, if you plan to ever send an AKC bred dog to Germany for titling then get the 4 generation pedigree, the AKC packages include only a 3 generation ped. I believe the same goes for AKC bred dogs that need to be USA registered.

Very good link, Roger. Thanks.
