I have a corgi, which is one of the breeds the DM test was originally developed for. According to the OFA results, over 2200 corgis have been tested. Of those 52% are at risk and 37% are carriers. That leaves 11% clear. Eliminate the carriers from the breed pool and you decimate the breed. Even at risk dogs can been considered for breeding but only if bred to a clear.

The problem with the DM test is that it does not test for the type of DM that German Shepherds get.

Thanks for the link on Dm, it sounds like much more info is needed and science to be more finely tuned at least as far as the German Shepard is concerned, I dont know perhaps the OFA has jumped the gun and caused panice among GSD breeders ? Is it for more of a money generating tool for them ? And if there are diseases that can memic DM to me it sounds like it can add to all the confusion,perhaps with time the science can be better known and with time maybe it can be a better tool breeders can use down the road. I would hate to see nice working temperment be traded or decimated for something that is not understood very well.

There are many threads discussing the limitations of DM testing. There is much to consider and there is much disagreement. I urge anyone not familiar with what those issues are, to do a little googling on their own. 

As of now, for me, when I only consider the GSD breed, IMHO, the tests can be used, but only as an imperfect tool. You must decide if you will benefit using it, knowing it is that way.

I,m not sure how current working dog EU is on thier website but it lists the number offspring for Quardes at 75 and say compared to Drago at 249,at first I thought Quardes was a Bi-color but after seeing more pictures it looks like no penciled toes ,Quardes looks to have very high working scores(points in Trials) anyone know if Drago has as high and yes I do understand that this does not mean that one is a better producer over the other.Can any comparissions be made to what Terror produced compared to Quardes or even Drago pups for any that have seen them in person,,, pups out of all 3 or maybe 2 of the 3. I see also that Quardes was in the BSP two times what was his highest position and for what year ?..... the BSP is outdated on this site and only goes to the year 2010.

Obviously just a points dog then :)  It has nothing to do with a the dog having a lot of  great stuff in it and great training to compliment it.  If you didn't get that, check your sarcasm meters, they're off
