Ramage

Hundmutter, your critique doesn't upset me at all :-) I appreciate your input.

Ramage, that is an excellent attitude to have. I've never owned a dog that everyone liked 100%. I learned a long time ago that if that was going to offend me, I would be offended all the time.

anyway, I have pretty much stopped offering critiques from pics and opened up this thread and looked at yours several times before I did so.  He is nice and should only get better with maturity and filling out.

I am not a fan of his head.  Too little stop, and his ears are rather closely set.  The size is good, which helps a bit, but the lack of stop detracts from it.

His angles are beautiful, and he has a fabulous topline and underline IMO.  Beautiful depth of chest and forechest.  Croup is a bit steep, but the length is nice.  Tailset perhaps a smidgeon high.  Feet are ok.

Fabulous bone, wonderful pigment, exquisite substance.  Overall this is a very nice animal.

Dogs to owners are like women to man....some like them busty and curvy, others like them linky and slick....its how they make you feel at the end that matters...whats attractive to me and gives me goose bumps you may completely over look....this dog does a lot for me, just something about him that tells me oh yeah i totally get it....maybe its because i have a thing for British..LOL...

LF  I still don't understand why you think he's
typical of 'British'  ?Shades Smile   Examples ?

by Nans gsd on 25 April 2013 - 16:04

I think his head will probably mature nicely as he has some growing to do.  Heads don't do shit anyway.  Pretty nice boy in my opinion, very eye catching, bet he can cover ground also.  Just enjoy him and good luck with all the rest.  Nan

Kalibeck

He's very handsome, I don't see 'snipey' ...., my girls head was snipey, & she was overshot, this boy looks nothing like her funny face. He looks very much built like my husbands bitch, which I like a lot ! That dark sooty coloring gives him rock star good looks! And he works! Congratulations! jackie harris

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't call him snipey.  The "collie head" comment would probably be from the lack of stop, by the substance of his head as a whole is very nice

Well I like honest people who speak their mind, ofcourse that is without being nasty. OP asked for critiques and opinions and that's exactly what we're doing, some gave critiques and some gave opinions, the more posters the more variations in opinions which is natural as some express what they personally like irregardless of the standard, moreover we see various structural elements whether correct or incorrect in various degrees. In the end no one of us is claiming he or she is an official trained conformation judge.
In regards to stop, I understand that standard calls for a well defined stop, but keep in mind when a stop is too sharp and exaggerated, it is usually (but not always) associated with domed forehead and out of parallel head planes.
I personally think he gives a nice impression from first look, now if you consider each part of his structure and compare it to a VA GSD he isn't very close, what is obvious at least to me is the steep croup, short and steep front upper arm and lack of fore chest development. I think it was Preston who once said we have a problem of steep croups in our present GSD and I think so too, so it isn't something he is guilty alone of. For the front upper arm it is well known that it's the most difficult element for breeders to correct and keep in a line as the genes responsible for it are recessive. In regards to his head I personally am not in love with it but it is natural to differ on this when we are talking liking and not liking.

Some of his best are the topline, pigment, feet and pasterns, also if we go back to liking, I like his neck Teeth Smile. and as Nans said he still has growing to do. I think Ramage wanted to know how others see her dog and that is what we're doing and she has a big heart Thumbs Up

Ibrahim, take a look at his grand dam, Fren Kateko, in his pedigree. a little streched, but what a gorgeous GSD.

I think Xeph described the head pretty well. But when I see a pedigree with this many BSP, WUSV participants and also attention obviously being paid to structure, I tend to start looking for the things I like first.
