agree on several accounts.  i also use dish soap, but simple green would be good too.  as far as the smell goes,
i find that yeast is the culprit---as suggested above.  either ears or paws.

I do rinse my crate pans with diluted bleach if they are sick (to kill and bugs).  Are these wire or plastic?  If plastic, is ventliation and issue?  My dogs can get filthy but the crate doesn't get stinky unless there's a skin issue going on.  I don't bathe or groom regularly.  They do stink more in the summer when swimming several times a day and not drying off, but it's the dog that is stinking and not the crate.  I got a dog blow dryer I'm hoping will help this coming summer.

Plastic, Lies, and over time, he's been transported in them, thrown up in them, etc. and they have been the same crates I've been using for probably 10 years for many other dogs...some mine...some rescues.  The one I was looking for a solution for is the one that sits next to my bed...vinegar makes sense; I'll try that.

Gotcha, mine are all wire and the trays get replaced every so often as they crack or get chewed so they don't have much chance to get too nasty.  Yeah I'd probably soak in vinegar water.

Bleach ( cup in a gallon jug)  and antibacterial soup. Rinse it with house well.  Cleanliness does not smell. Bacteria causes smell. Beach  will kill it soap will was it away.
Lysol spay is very convenient too.

Good ole Mr. Clean!  It takes the coat oils off super quick and leaves the crates as good as new.  I have tried everything over the years and keep going back to the original formula Mr. Clean!
