They have some incredible dresses in all sizes and dozens of colors.  I find prces not to bad.  I would however have to tell hubby no to the hair extensions and false eyelashes.

Trust me Kim, people will be wearing louder colors than bright red.

I was actually thinking of a Sari at one point as they are gorgeous!!!  And oh boy the colors will be amazing.  I know the bridal party is red, gold, a shade of burgandy and a deep yellow.  The dresses are stunning and then of course everyone will be covered in layers of gold jewels.  I don't think there is any color that I could show up in that would be considered too flashy :)

And Laura we both know that half way through the night I will somehow lose my heels, my false eyelashes will end up on my cheek and I will be in the fountain... so maybe something water proof?  This crew parties hard and I know that when the older generation heads home the party will get crazy.....I will get photographic evidence of me in a dress for you :)

Judy, I can't say no to his cute little face :)  He sees his wife in track suits all year, I'll give him this one.  Trust me it doesnt happen very often :)

Well, if you did want to wear a sari, I'd probably suggest something like this:

Price is reasonable.
I'd suggest you have them stitch the blouse piece and you will need a skirt the same color as the sari.
Lighter materials like a chiffon or georgette are easier to wear.
It's also ornate but the work isn't too heavy.

Here's how you put it on:

The first time is not as easy as they make it seems.
I'd suggest you practice a few times.

Edit: oh and I suggest safety pins, lots and lots of safety pins.

If you want color, I think something like this is au courant this is nice... I was looking for the floral into black dress I saw but I'm not good at all the young starlet names so I can't google the actress to find it. Katy Perry was wearing something in the flavor of "hot" prints.  Some kind of knock off of this would be stunning:
There was a dress with floral appliques or somethings using this color palette... that was awesome, it went from black to nude underlining but I can't remember where I saw the picture or what young actress it was... Well, this palette is hot, is the point.

(And of course black is fine for a classic evening wedding!)

Bee, I could pull off the bottom one for sure :)  Don't think I can pull off anything short due to heavy bruising and dog scratches Tongue Smile  Have you ever seen a dog trainers legs LOL!!!!! Although I 'm sure I could wear black hose or something to cover it up :) Gorgeous!!!

They have amazing spray tans... in cans... will hide bruises and veins, lol, and can give you a shimmer, too.... ! LOL, I do show off my legs, I guess, because I still can, lol... And don't forget your mani-pedi... that must be budgeted in there.... especially if you end up wearing open toe shoes.

Searackal - just because "people are doing it" doesn't make it polite.

Indian families are typically conservative as a whole. I would not show too much skin.

Will your date be wearing a suit or a tux?

An evening wedding and reception is always a challenge. I would try for a classic look with hair up, nice earings and 24k gold around the neck is always noticed, but not too flashy. Not too many coctail rings and not too big maybe a bangle or two - again, elegant and to flashy. Stay away from fake jewelery, it can be noticed a mile away and its better not to wear anything, than to wear fake.

Find COMFORTABLE shoes, no matter the height, if you're not comfortable it will show! And it will lessen your evening. Wear panty hose....... this IS formal!

Make-up should be nice, but once again don't paint it on. Bright red lipstick is not always a good idea - not nice to have lipstick smears on champange glass, or when you hug/kiss people you know... also huge eyelashes and shadow matched with bright lipstick tends to look clownish...IMO.

One more thing - - you never want to outdo the bride, it is HER evening afterall.

With so many etiquette rules about what to wear to a wedding, an invite may have you wondering what to choose. You want to dress up to be respectful for this sort of occasion, but you don't want to be overdressed. Check the invitation to see how formal you need to be, or ask a bridesmaid or the mother of the bride what the dress code will be. The location given on the invitation will also give you clues about the expected level of formality.

Wedding Dress Codes Deciphered:

  1.

White tie: White tie weddings are the most formal, and when this is on the invitation, you can be sure the bride has an exquisite event planned. You won't want to let her down by wearing less than the finest. A man should only wear a tuxedo with tails, a white bow tie, a white vest, black silk socks and black shoes. They should accessorize with cuff links and shirt studs in platinum or gold, with diamonds or onyx. A woman will be expected to wear a full-length gown in a neutral tone. Look for a dress with elegant details, like beading. For shoes, choose dress pumps. Long white gloves are welcome. Keep jewelry sophisticated; this is an occasion for diamonds. Try dangling diamond earrings and diamond bracelet or small diamond earrings and elaborate necklace.

  2.

Black tie: Men's formalwear will still include a tuxedo, but a white vest and tie can be replaced with a black tie and possibly a cummerbund. Women may still want to choose a floor-length gown, but a cocktail-length dress would also work well, so many more formal dresses become options. Jewelry can be as formal as with white tie, although more colorful gemstones will be welcome at this wedding.

  3.

Black tie suggested or black tie optional: When black tie isn't required, but the bride has suggested it, guests should opt for a formal look without being as concerned about every detail. Many men will still wear a tuxedo, but a dark suit and dark tie would also be an acceptable choice. Women can wear a long gown, a suit dress or a cocktail dress. Colors aren't as much of a concern, but you'll want to stay in a darker palette. Jewelry doesn't need to be as fine, but it shouldn't be too casual.

  4.

Semi-formal: Still a step above casual, a semi-formal dress code leaves many options open. Men can wear a suit and tie or a suit with a sweater and no tie. Women can choose a long or short dress or even a skirt paired with a blouse in warmer weather or a sweater in cooler weather.

  5.

Casual: For an evening wedding, casual will still mean a little bit dressed up. Don't reach for your jeans, shorts or tank tops unless you know the bride and groom are very informal people. Men will want to wear dress pants with a button-down shirt (tie optional) or a polo. Women can wear dress pants or a skirt. A shirtdress or a wrap dress would also be casual but still dressy enough to show respect for the occasion.

    Wedding Guest Clothing Tips:

    1. Although rules have relaxed a bit over time, most brides will appreciate it if no female guests wear white.

    2. Black, once considered unacceptable for weddings, is now a fine choice for an evening wedding.

    3. For any evening occasion, a clutch is the perfect handbag choice. For formal events, choose an evening bag made of silk, satin or velvet. As the event gets more casual, so can the materials.

    4. If the wedding ceremony is religious, women will want to make sure not to wear anything sleeveless or strapless.
