Pat stated in her 1/4/13 post on the "forum" that she is only providing a temporary foster home so that he gets his meds on time-his hips have been x-rayed and are fine and she feels that he is getting around better-the vet thinks it might be a disc issue.  Also says he doesn't seem to know much but is very lovable.

SO sorry I've not kept a check on Roman's post on this forum.  I'm the person temperorarily fostering him for the shelter. . . he is on his second week of prednisone, reduced dosage, and he has gained some strength in his rear legs over the past couple of weeks.   There is a couple in the area who are animal lovers and  recognized Roman on the shelter site as being a dog who came from a "not so nice home" in the area where she lives and she has given me information on him from the years he spent wandering around the neighborhood. The owners were not kind ot him and also neglected him and this lady, Lisa, said she regularly snuck him food to keep him from going hungry. He was terrible skinny.  She also applied flea medication as poor boy had noticable flea allergy. Roman  wandered the neighborhood along the side of the roads and regularly made trips to her house to visit. She has two smaller sized male dogs that visited with Roman when he came into the yard and he was kind to them even when they chewed his ears and jumped all over him.  She had also seen him gently playing with a puppy in his yard. . . He was raised with kids. . . She said Roman quit wandering the neighborhood in the summer of last year and she had no idea what happened to him. . . and then she saw him on the shelter FB site.

Roman is a really happy go lucky fella'. . .he's an 'embassador of good will' toward one and all. . . I will say he may not due well with other large dominant males. . . the staff took out a large bulllyX with a somber stare as he came thru the door way and Roman took offense to him.. but he was fine with another medium sized male we introduced him to. Cats are open to interpretation. . . he didn't mind the dog-hater cat at the shelter until it 'attacked' him !! He sees my own cats as I take him and out of the basement and as yet has only shown  minor interest in them . ..

Roman is still in need of a permanent place to retire and someone to show him love and kindness. He's got a LOT of love to give and is still just a fun loving good natured dog. His head is huge. . .doesn't look it in the pictures.. . . I'm only temp fostering him mainly to keep him getting his meds on a regular bases. .  If anyone interested in helping Roman please contact the shelter or me at Rydn1@suddenlink.net . I'm sure we can somehow arrange transport for Roman if you live out of the area. . . everyone who's met him just wonders how someone could abandon this boy . . . And even though the prior owner could be identified, AC has never persued owners abandoning dogs. . . that's just the way it is around here.  And secondly, returning him to where he came from wouldn't even be an option. . he's deserving of so much more. . . .

p.s.   . . .Roman for the most part is house trained. . . had some 'accidents' but mainly due to my own fault of being gone for many hours. He walks well on a leash. . .. just doens't seem to have had much training through his life though I" sure he was well capable of learning a lot. He's got extremely sound nerves and a "I'll go anyplace' attitude. He rides in the car well  though I didn't put him in  a crate.  He just likes to sit or stand in the back seat...He's also fine with staying by himself and isn't destructive. When he gets happy and excited he likes to 'deflea' your arm and sometimes pinches   . . but he's just happy. . .
