How about this we fold the current comfomation forum into a new private forum that only showline people can acsess? I suggested this in the past and thoroughly ripped by members. So, I push for this if enough members want it. I would rather do this than lose members to Facebook.

I'd vote "yes".

Me too...
And to all those that just want to run down the showline dogs...
Show a little couth..if you got nothing nice to say, say nothing at all. Is it really that hard to have a little consideration for others?

Really Blitzen?  How would that work.   Will we then make a working line forum and a show line forum. Who decides who can participate in which forums, can you participate in more than  one forum.  If so then what is the difference When you sign up to be a member do you then sign in for "A" type of forum and that is all you can participate in.

Splitting the forums will not make people be polite and considerate to each other. It is not going to help others from taking offense easily to any small or large slight.

What I see is all these other forums start because someone thinks there is this magic pill. It goes good for awhile and people are all nice and happy and everybody is tripping over themselves and then they all end up back here. Where we allow the diversity of opinions or my absolute favorite they get a bug up their behind about whatever and they go and start a forum or a Facebook (which is 100% acceptable to me) but here is where I have the problem they send PMs and post links here and invite Oli's members they like away, in the meantime claiming utopia. I have seen it over and over and over. Meanwhile the site that been here since 2001 is slowly eroded away. These pedigrees are a treasure trove for all lines and Oli was the first in the world to start a pedigree database which has been copied and used to start other sites. Oli has worked hard put 1000s of his own money into this site spent 10000s of hours building this place and people disrespect Oli by poaching his members, but they all come back. You want to start a forum or Facebook page good but do it the hard way not the easy way and not on someone else's blood, sweat and tears. Because on the net there is no utopia. You go to any forum and if it grows and becomes something and starts attracting its own members you will have drama. You may be able to give examples where this isn't the case but if so it is because they are heavily moderated and cleaned of members who fall in that bad zone. We don't and we will never come out here and stop every disagreement or debate, no matter how many times the abuse button is pressed. Just a pet peeve of mine.

The forum would be a private forum and you would get a choice and that would be your choice, you only get one and you can't switch. Working would also be a private forum.

I haven't even begun to sell this to Oli and it may be a hard sell for all I know but I am willing to go to bat if enough members from both sides agree, if only show agree then only show would get a private forum btw to be clear everyone would be allowed to read the both forums but they could only post in the forum they chose. There would be one general forum/german shepherd forum, a rescue and probably a newcomer. OT is an undecided at this point.

I am also willing to go to bat for an ignore feature but 99% will not use it because in all reality they just can't ignore. Like the old example of a wreck on the other lanes of a freeway - you know you shouldn't look but you do and probably more than once - ya know.

Right now everybody has a say in what they want, if enough want the private forums I will go tooth and nail to support it, even against all the other admins and Oli if need be. These are our / YOUR forums and this is your chance to tell us what you want but I absolutely will not tolerate one second of a back and forth on this thread state your opinion and move on.

BTW, there is no guarantee I can talk Oli into this. But I will try.

This is your chance because the winds of change are blowing and now might be a great time to express your opinions.

I personally like it the way it is... I do not want a "private" forum. I like having the option of being able to comment, if I so choose to, on any of the topics.

I appreciate all the hard work that Oli has gone to for us on this forum, and do not want to create more WORK for him as well...

As I stated, that would also limit to what we are able to comment about... Also what if a member has both Show lines and Working lines... then what?? They can only comment on one side? I do not like that idea personally. If someone does not like a thread then they need not comment on it. I feel that if we do not agree with a topic then either DO NOT RESPOND on it or have enough respect for other people and yourself and comment WITHOUT being rude and condensending to the OP.

This is my .02 cents...

I don't show my dogs but but i like to read and get information one day i might .If you don't like the thread say off peoples views on work line and show line is what makes it interesting different standers .No point having somebody agree with you all the time different of  views cerate knowledge. I would like ot to stay the same

I used to train my dogs and I used to handle on shows - where should I go?

Working ability and conformation belong together - some don´t like this, but it´s reality within a breed.
There are "extremes" on both sides, we only need to respect (!) each other -
without written standard no breed,
without training and testing no working dog breed....

Really Western Rider? Ask Admin, it was his suggestion, not mine. And the title of this thread has been changed from - A Discussion for Showline Fanciers. it never said discussion of private forms
