Jenni, that sucks to no end!

RJH, application for the PEN number can be found here: http://www.ckc.ca/en/Events/Event-Forms

Scroll down until you see the heading "Exhibitor"

If the dog was born in the U.S., I wouldn't bother to mention that as it will just muddy the waters, but since the site you bought him from has a .ca address instead of .com, I am guessing it must be a Canadian site!

Good luck!

Found the information on an English website, and it makes it quite clear. Your dog is considered a dangerous dog, and MUST have a pedigree. Other restrictions apply as well:

Dangerous Dogs

There are particular restrictions on the importation of classified dangerous dogs in France.

You cannot bring into the country any dog known as a Staffordshire terrier without pedigree, American Staffordshire terrier (pitbull) without pedigree, Mastiff or Tosa without a pedigree.

The American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler and Tosa can be brought into the country, provided you have a pedigree certificate. If you bring one of these dogs into the country, you are obliged to register it with the local council, and other regulations apply.

Yes so the dangerous dogs are split into 2 categories: Categorie 1 (Without Pegidree) and Categorie 2 (with Pedigree).

Categorie 1 dogs are not allowed to be imported to France (Categorie 1 dog owners already in France were allowed to keep their dogs on certain conditions) , Categorie 2 are allowed to be imported to France (provided you meet all the conditions)

Right now my dog falls in the Categorie 1 since I do not have a pedigree. I do meet the rest of the conditions for Categorie 2 (Neutered, micro-chipped, vaccinated...) and to obtain a licencse except for the proof that he is purebred.

They do mention somwhere that they need a Pedigree or Certificate of birth... I am hoping that I can obtain any official document that equivalent to the certificat of birth and that is accepted by the authorities in France.

I emailed CKC this morning. They answered that they are reviewing my request and will get back to me. Hopefully they will get back to me with a solution.

I am also hoping that since my relocation to France is only temporary (the company is sending me as an expat for 2 years) and since the company is taking care of obtaining the required documents for my move (work visa..)  maybe the French authorities will be a bit leniant and accept an equivalent to these documents to issue a license.

thank you all! will let you know what happens.

Why not try the Continental Kennel Club...only seen one dog registered through them, but I think they register just aboyt anything.

What a shame that even a good dog has to pay the penalty for those before it.

From the appearance of the dog it may pass as an Am Staff under AKC's ILP program.

by RJH on 07 August 2014 - 13:08

yes the equivalent of AKC's ILP Program at the Canadian Kennel Club is the PEN which allows dogs unregistered dogs from recognized breeds to compete in events.

I am applying for the PEN at CKC and hoping the document will be accepted in France. I am also getting a behavior evaluation as a proof that he is very well behaved and not a danger.
