Because some people like the white and it's only a color fault not a physical fault. If we started only breeding sable to sables and reds to reds I think we would get split/breeds even if the original GSD's came from the same ancestors. If you go back far enough all breeds come from the same ancestors. This is how breeds are made to begin with. Am I not correct? The White GSD will become it's own breed.

P59 Excellent way of putting it, Theory Yes,, But in Practice !!! OK That I understand and can make sense of. Thank You, very much for that I guess it took the right wording for me to get it LOL. 4pack only a color fault, But then put two color faults together to produce more color faults. That I still don't get, I guess "Standards" mean something to me. But your right about how things get started, It's a shame people deviate so drastically from such a great beginning breed though don't ya think ? Drastics is how we have gotten so far apart on these dogs, I think more in basic terms I guess, and wish to adhere to the standards the founder had in mind. He had good reasons for them, Yet still people are breeding for extremes, Drives, angulation, colors. I personally think it's a shame. To get back to the Sable issue, If sable is not a fault, and if the dog has everything else all the other dogs have, including temperament and structure then I would say, YES a good (showline) could be sable as well as any other color that is PER STANDARD. Just my dime. :-)

"Yet still people are breeding for extremes, Drives, angulation, colors. I personally think it's a shame." Again how every breed ended up the way it is. Do you think a Doxen or Basset Hound is a fault? We got Dalmations by breeding white dogs with many spots, to white dogs with many spots, until it became the dog it is today. Someone wants the white shepherds around. It's a preference is all. Let them have their dogs and we will stick with ours. It's not going to affect the lines we produce, so who cares? Frankly I'd much rather see a dog bred for color than some drastic body malformation that makes it live a life of pain. "Fads" are what make breeds.

I really like sables! I also like blacks and Black and Tan German Shepherds!. Those are all aceptable collors, by the standard. White German Shepherds are seen as a diferent breed in most countrys today, and this other breed must be respected, and not judged by us "German Shepherd fans", just because it is out of our breed, even coming from our breed it became an other, thats a fact!. A lot of people have prejudice because they believe the "Whites" are albins, but today thats known they are not, they just got white coats, like the "West Hightland White Terrier", that came from the "Cair Terrier" and now had became an other breed, a respected and valued breed!. Horand`s grandfhather was white so this collor is in the breed since the beguining, but it was not developed inside the "German Shepherd Breed" so today it is really diferent and just cant return, because of the diference created by the selection in the breed. If we direct the breeding program over a long period of time, we change the caracteristics of our dogs turning then closer to what we want, so the Show Ring German Shepherd was changed along the time and became even fisicaly diferent from the West Working Line dogs and yet more diferent from the DDRs that were isolated for a period of time because of historic aspects of the human society. The same happened with the White German Shepherd, that came from real German Shepherds and was separeted for generations until it became even fisicaly diferent. We started talking about the classic "German Shepherd and now we are talking about an other breed, that needs to be respected as a diferent breed!

I like very high drives in my dogs as long as they can cut it off when the work is over. To alot of people who have working dogs the drive is not extreme while to someone wanting a pet etc they think the dog has extreme drive. I have mentioned in other posts how a friend of mine who trains drug and bomb dogs gets alot of free dogs from people who buy a working high drive dog and are eager to get rid of it. Granted I agree the drives are too high for most but if you need the dog to work and be trustworthy even if tired you need the drive. You do need to control the breedings so you don't end up with psycho dogs. Just my opinion, to each their own.....
