I was in agreement with your post, BW, right up 'til the last paragraph started ! Even though all through the discussion I think you have over-generalised, about human nature in general, and the dog fancy in particular, doesn't mean I can't accept that sometimes things DO happen just as you describe (though maybe not always for the reason you argued they do).  But I'll defend  to the bloody death your [our] right to have the conversation in the first place !   Those with patience to read the thred thoroughly will see that, as you say, it didn't go OT, it evolved.

Some criticism of the length of comments may be justified,  but we

can't all get our points across in "sound bites", LOL.

BTW, you don't know who Linda Swift is or what I've done in dogs,

and I don't know who  "Bavarian Wagon" is or what you have

achieved, over how long - but here I am defending your position,

which I'd say kinda proves MY point, wouldn't you ?  Wink Smile

Welcome back Pete ! I saw your name on an old topic just
yesterday and wondered when we might hear from you.
(Is it ok with the self-appointing thred police if I say that here,
instead of opening a new topic ?)

BTW CORRECTION: In an earlier paragraph above I referred
to a conversation about lack of helpfulness to each other in the
US GSD community and ascribed it to Beetree. It was in fact
something BLITZEN was concerned about (talking of absent
friends); I don't recall whether Bee even commented on it.
My bad.

I didn’t think I got personal anywhere, I didn’t really see anyone get personal. Usually the people that cry about “getting personal” are the first people to do so. Just take a look at the previous page for who starts flinging negative words and insults…

I did enjoy the discussion, but unfortunately it comes to an end because no one wants to deal with the peanut gallery that’s just going to make statements to support and egg each other while not adding anything to the discussion. Looks like there is some deep seeded issues between members and mods here and the members decide to take it out on other members rather than addressing the issue with the mods.

I’ve been in agreement with many of your points; I really haven’t disagreed with much except that what I described is an “American” issue. It might be that there are plenty of people that are happy to be mediocre when it comes to the training/breeding of dogs…but I’ve just made an observation that most of the people making claims about how great of a breeding program they have, or how amazing of a trainer they are on the internet, are those same mediocre people in real life. You don’t really see the people that are truly achieving things on high levels…sitting around on internet forums. I don’t usually have an issue with someone sharing their advice or their knowledge, it’s when they start talking down to people and providing examples of greatness by using their own mediocrity that I start questioning their true intentions.

Nah, they just have problems with me calling them out on their bad behavior. I do agree with the peanut gallery statement and it is so obvious and childish. Notice though they only have each other as support, most of the other members, truth be told think they are childish and obnoxious but of course they do not see it and think they are so smart and know everything. You are 100% right that they egg each other on here and other places. They honestly think they are so funny instead they are really being laughed at and not laughed with. And then they sit back and blame it on admin, it gets old playing the same old game all the time and it sure adds to admin burnout but hey as long as they know it all and are smart asses and the little circle gets laughs amongst themselves and they pat each others asses that is all they need.

Off topic;

Hey, VK, how are you doing?
Everything in order in "Down Under" ?
Missed your clips ( and your dark black humor )...

On topic:

A lot of people are able to contribute important knowledge or thoughts to any discussion, they don´t need to be "well known" or "famous" in the dog circuit, they are experts out of experience in their chosen field.

Blitzen as an example knows a lot about health, reproduction, AKC rules and so on ( I miss her ), others are experts about raw diet, some know a lot about clubs and rules, others about certain bloodlines, Xeph about ASL´s, and so on...

Sometimes "greenhornes" do ask the best questions ( I really like VK4 because of that ), made me think about my own position more than once.

I tend to believe/like people who don´t try to "sell" me anything, be it a dog or any kind of training.

I do miss the "real" experts of training though, but that´s normal, as long as somebody is activly involved in (any) training, he/she doesn´t waste his/her time on a forum, but trains, at least over here ( no proof = no sale / proof = no ads necessary in the world of dogs ).

In the States it seems to be slightly different - every second litter is a "world class" litter, and every second trainer is a "master" trainer, almost nobody asks for proof.

And what happened to Blitzen? Care to guess?
