Mirasmom, agreed, but usually it's a gift from someone you don't expect a gift from anyhow. Not exactly something you get a spouse, sibling, etc. I was just curious because my aunt bought me a ticket and I won 12 million, but its more like 5 after taxes. She seemed upset when I told her I'd buy her a car and pay off her house. I think she wanted half.

When giving someone a lottery ticket I always buy a second ticket with the exact same numbers for myself. That way if they win I automatically get half, no questions asked. I am also very genuinely happy that they won and don't expect anything from them; except maybe a thank you.
