hi -- i had a dog with DM -- she has passed away a year ago at 12 years old --- my veternarian is sussessfully treating the DM with acupuncture on other dogs afflicted !! the DM will not be reversed but some dogs do quite well for a time and respond to treatment !! consider that alternative to help make your dog's life better for the time being .

Angela, I had a male who was diagnosed with DM at age 10 and died a few weeks short of his 13th birthday. He also had a lot of allergy problems: pannus when he was four years old, ear infections, itchy feet. I've lost two GSDs to this evil disease. Both had wheeled carts toward the end. Expensive, but worth it to be able to take them out again on walks, however short they were sometimes.
