I would like some light shed on what exactly Dr. Raiser wants that the SV will not co-operate with. From what I've heard, it mostly has to do with working drives and getting them back to an acceptable level. Is this right? Or is there more? I do agree with raising the bar on working drives, but not the extent that we are bringing in Mals! It is my person opinion that they are one of the uglyiest dogs on the face of the earth... but that is just my preference. Debby

LOL Yes I think they are ugly too. I say so everyday to the one in my backyard.

Dr. Raiser not only wants to bring back stronger working ability but longevity and health. Go back and read his speeches when he was the breed warden. Dr. Raiser wanted to open discussion on improving GSD health. In a brainstorming style he thru out adding Malinois to help improve health. With that, folks blew a gasket! We know the end result. His frustration is the lack of interst in finding out why physically GSD are done working by the age of 6 to 8 years old. Why are our GSD's are in bonus years passed10 years old. Many GSD once lived beyond 14 years. Its easier to say it can't be done than to do something to fix the problem. Viva le Revolution! Kyle

Someone has always got to rile things up in order to make changes. We'll see what happens.

"Hungary has had 2 organizations for yrs. Well up until this yr anyways." MEOE was the FCI one and MNJK was the SV one. And now....

I have nothing against Malinois and nothing against progress. However, Raiser has lost all credibility by offering such a suggestion. I seriously doubt that any prudent breeder would side with him after such an impertinent remark. The political battles are difficult enough, but without the respect of the breeders I do not believe that he can succeed. Jonah

JDH, I believe Dr. Raiser made the comment to stir new ideas and thought on the topic. Instead of joining the process of lively debate and new ideas, the populous scorned Dr. Raiser's suggestion. Lets be honest here. The reason why the GSD is in its present state is because too many are concerned with fluff instead of substance. Kyle

The topic of crossbreeding is utterly pointless in the context of a breed organization. It is of limited merit to begin with, made all the more useless as by introducing outside blood we create unpredictable results that fall outside the standard. It is a well documented genetic concept that f1 hybrids might well exhibit some desirable characteristic only to produce offspring that do not. Farmers used similar logic in dairy production only to find that mixed breed cows tend to lose the bred in characteristics of their parents and move toward more lackluster performance. Breeders are well aware that their greatest accomplishment in breeding might be to consistently produce type and characteristics that will endure beyond their lifetime. They also know that bringing in Malinois blood would be completely out of the question because of the unpredictable results. Consequently, the statement was a sort of suicide for Dr. Raiser. I hope for his sake that he chooses his words more carefully in the future. Jonah

Some of you are missing the point. Dr. Raiser focuses on a healthy dog with working capabilities who is sound in the head. Don't know what is wrong with that?
