Now i know how this works.Sorry everyone I do not get on this site but once a few months ago. I dog has prodcued very hard puppys that can work in sport, but some have been more than what the sport would like to have and would have been better a police dogs. To much fight and would love for you to drop the sleeve. I have never worked him because i got him after the loss of his LEG.

I guess if you pay $2000 you get more favorable comments. Even though no puppy is worth that much.

Flipfinish, Though I often respect what you say, I'm afraid I must disagree with you on your last post...It may not be worth it to YOU but to many it is...If the market wasn't selling they couldn't have prices that high. As it has been said, "It's worth that much if its worth that price to YOU." I could get a mutt for free, like the temperament, but if I bond with the dog, it could be worth a Million in the world to me, but would it be to you? Probably not...Please don't think this is pointed at you specifically, its more of a general post. Okay, had to add my $.02 sorry again Flipfinish, wasn't trying to start anything, it was JUST MY OPINION. Krista

Krista... Here's my $.02... Do you think a breeder who buys two pet GSD's, does not train, cert., show, trial or title the parents... just waits for them to grow up and have puppies deserves to get $1000 for their offspring??? Or a breeder who purchases two quality animals, researches pedigrees and bloodlines, invests time and money into training, showing, trialing, titling and certifying the parents (etc.)??? IMO price for puppies should depend on how much is INVESTED in the parents...NOT how much the market can bare, seeing how much they can GET and selling to uneducated buyers thinking high price equals high quality!

Krista, I have to agree to some of what you said. I would add that if the parents have proven themselves through working testing and OFA or SV hips/elbows the price is what the market will pay. Flipfinish, never generalize that no puppy is worth $2000. Maybe you personally wouldn't ever pay that much, but some puppies are worth it.

animules: [[I have to agree to some of what you said. Yes, I'd have to say if its what I'M looking for I'd spend some extra $$ than I'd normally consider reasonable to get it.

Krista, I too respect your opinions and agree with most of what you say. I feel we have to agree to disagree here. Who can predict the future? Who can predict what a puppy will be? In my opinion a $2000 puppy is a crap shoot at best and it is way to much. I do not think I am unreasonable. While I would be willing to pay $1500 I think that last $500 is just plain gouging. I mean c'mon, can you 100% gurantee me that any puppy will become what you think it will? NOPE. And if you could then you would be a very wealthy person. You can get a good educated guess. Animules, I dont know you, so I wont pass judgement. But I have yet to see a $2000 puppy. I am not generalizing, I am stating facts. Only in the pacific northwest of the U.S. do I see such out of skew pricing. Some are charging $2000 for show line puppies and only one of the parents has a VA rating and only one is titled (only Sch 1). Nonsense! If I want to blow 2 grand why not just spend 3 grand for a 12 month old green dog with fully developed drives? You can KNOW what you are getting that way. Wouldnt you agree? By the way I gave $1500 for my show line male and 2 years later that same breeder was selling the same pups for $350! If I ever see them again I promise you they will be on the business end of a hissy fit! LOL! I guess supply and demand holds true.

flipfinish, Since I live in the Pacific Northwest, maybe my sense of pricing is skewed. I'll give you that. I see the same thing with other animals, expensive here, cheaper elsewhere. I guess in time you get used to the prices where you live.

by flipfinish on 17 November 2006 - 21:11

I feel for you. You can get the same level dogs at half the cost other places in the US. Dont know, maybe the Cascades have something in them that make people not value money as much. Beautiful country though..
