This has gone totally off topic here. Too bad it did.

animules, agreed! Too bad the dogs probably have better temperaments than their owners on some of these posts.... As far as what else I would change? Maybe having a USA/WDA run website that people could post legitimate questions about Schutzhund training and get answers from qualified trainers/handlers/helpers instead of being jumped all over? That would be worth something,in my opinion! :)

Oh, but think of how many people would get their toes stepped on if they weren't asked to write.....and then those that asked to be paid to write... I like the idea, vomfelsenhof, but can hear the arguing already! Maybe there would be a way to make it work. How about USA publishing the 'a' stamp results that are done thru their program?? That would be very nice. Something you can actually easily look up if you know the dog's registered name. Maybe even a way to search by kennel name.

LaPort, An honest appology is deserved to you for this rediculous bashing back and forth Yes I admit it I have dished as I have received. I do appologize !! Your ? What would you change? is an excellent ? and my first response was a response to the ? at hand. It has taken a turn from there, I am very sorry. I thought it was good to ask what you did, it brought out alot of ideas, and some of you have to admit that even the "newbies" had come up with some good ideas. One thing I would add to your original ? is this thought... Why do we in SchH sport "HIDE" What is up with that ? Education is what is needed, feed the ignorant and they shall stay ignorant, and needy, educate them and they shall feed themselves and others. Is that not the angle that should be taken on the sport ? Why is not more effort being put into educating the general public about the sport, and the advantages of it. First and foremost in the sport is the Obedience, a dog without "control" or Discipline will be excluded quickly. So why is there so much worry about the public "finding out what we are doing" ? The "hiding" of the sport makes me most nervous. I would love to see SchH come out of the shadows and into the limelite !! Just me maybe ?

Ignorance can be fixed, but stupidity is forever. The unfortunate thing is, that saying applies all too well both to people in the sport as well as the 'outsiders'. If everyone in SchH consistently behaved like an adult AND had a stable dog that was under control and being trained properly and responsibly I think we would be way ahead of where we are right now. I think there needs to be serious effort put into education about our breed, sport, and topics like safety around dogs, etc. COmpletely agree with you there! If we can stay productive and away from the juvenile banter that gets going on this forum (and others!), we might start making some improvements. We also need to communicate these ideas to the people 'at the top' somehow. Writing on messageboards is a great way to exchange ideas and see how others feel, but it doesn't do anyone any good if these ideas just stay HERE. We have to get active with the organizations we are complaining about in order to have hope of making them better.

LaPorte, That is true, No fixing Stupidity. Well I know I will be mentioning many of the ideas that were brought on this subject to our entire club. See where it goes from there... That's all we can do is try try again right ?? Persistance may well "pay off" but I think one thing you said will make things difficult, screening of potential sport participants is tough, and the Wrong peoples can ruin it for everyone else. Our club yields to the general public very graciously. However a newcomer spouted off hey you can't bring your dog over here we are ... sch club and we have this area reserved, she was quite hasty about it and made the entire club uneasy and "look" onry in our mannerism, No One in the club was happy with her and we all let her know about our feelings of how she dealt with this person straying into the traiing field, The rest of us simply would have waited until they sauntered off into the distance, and the director let her know that yielding is more appropriate. Anyway Great Thread, Great information was provided and hopefully great things will come of it all.
