"Are you kidding me, You would not say anything ?" Try reading it again. There is a vast distinction between what I have a legal duty to do and what I would do. What I said was that I have no LEGAL OBLIGATION to report something like that. A moral obligation is something entirely different. "This is not a choice for me you nit whits, I am bound by law to report any and all abuse or "alleged" abuse that is brought to my attention, Here in my state I am "bound" by that law, I don't have a choice, I ignore it and I am brought up on charges... Simple choice for me." A quick glance at Oregon Revised Statutes Chapter 167.310 through 167.390, which collectively criminalize animal abuse, suggests that you have no such duty. Contrast with Oregon Revised Statutes Chapter Statutes Chapter 686.442 through 686.465, which creates an affirmative duty for veterinarians etc. to report animal abuse, and creates additional duties for law enforcement to investigate such reports.

Further, even if as a private citizen you had an affirmative duty to report animal abuse, the following limitations would apply: a) you would have to personally witness such abuse or personally have observed an animal in such a condition that a reasonable person would believe that the witnessed condition resulted from abuse, and b) such abuse would have had to have taken place within your state, as Oregon has no authority to investigate animal abuse in other states. Neither of which conditions apply to the situation being discussed here.

Echo, are you promoting you self importance?

by OldNewGuyMC on 16 November 2006 - 18:11

Echo, I agree that you normally come across as a very caring person, but you are way out of line on this one! And when you of all people start saying "you nitwits" I know you've lost it.

by OldNewGuyMC on 16 November 2006 - 18:11

Quote: "This clown has probably never titled a dog in her life. These are the idiots that are bad for the sport." Unquote. It's good to see chivalry isn't dead.

by LMH on 16 November 2006 - 18:11

Echo-- It's one thing to suggest to djc that she might want to report anything that she feels is abusive behavior---It's quite another thing to take it upon yourself and *turn her in* like she was a criminal. (I had no clear picture of seen abuse-- more hearsay knowledge and concern). Isn't she the one trying to stop these atrocities? You actually blackmailed her in your post. That was wrong, very wrong. Please stop policing this site--You are making me very uncomfortable. I see how much you love your dogs, and how enthusiastic you are about the breed---but, you went too far. P59--That guy would still be searching for his teeth--there wouldn't be one left in his head.

by EchoMeadows on 16 November 2006 - 20:11

P59, your right Oregon would have no jurisdiction here, But I am bound by the same laws that apply to the Veterinarians as far as reporting goes. OK you've all made some good points.. OLD NEW GUY, I never said that last quote you posted I don't know where that came from. But was not me. LMH, sorry your uncomfortable, but I agree it would be nice if someone were missing teeth over it, But face it that will never happen and that person will go on and continue the inappropriate and Illegal behavior he's ALLEGIDLY Displayed. I'm sorry you guys if you feel I'm so bad for following a MORAL/Legal Obligation, But I won't appologize for having Moral's !! Sorry. I did what I felt was right, and if it's over the line well then toughen up your toes. I mean come on why would you air something like Alleged Illegal activity on this board and seriously beleive that there would be no reprocussions ?? Think about what you are saying ? Spook101, I've never seen you do anything on this board other than promote hate and discontent... Leave me out of your little Pet Peves Circle !!! I don't have to come here. I can erase this like a bad dream. Yes I love the breed and promote responsibility, and oh shame on me I also beleive in Accountability as well. The nitwhit thing is just a term I use when am frustrated no harm was meant by it, It's kinda like duhhh, hello mcfly kind of term for me. If it was offensive I will appologize for that as well It really was not intended to be directed at anyone personally. P59, "A quick glance at Oregon Revised Statutes Chapter 167.310 through 167.390, which collectively criminalize animal abuse, suggests that you have no such duty." KEYWORD "Suggests" P59, I have been advised that we are held to the same standard, as I mentioned earlier.

"Competition politics" Everyone should be cautious of believing what they hear about other people's or club's training methods. Often when someone has a rivalry going against other sport dog enthusiasts, or an ax to grind, they will abscribe outrageous abuses to their rival. The people who promote this as "the real truth" are usually skilled in deception, they are very believable, this is their "hobby". Unless you have seen it with your own eyes, take such information in with some skepticism. Even if it is somewhat true, it is often exaggerated truth. Veronica

by EchoMeadows on 16 November 2006 - 22:11

Veronica, I could not agree more, But have to say this warrants further inquiry by appropriate authorities.

by spook101 on 17 November 2006 - 03:11

Echo, I only say what's on my mind and avoid a lot of the threads because of what I'd like to say. You think a lot of yourself and project an importance upon yourself that, frankly, I don't understand. Maybe you have low self esteem, I don't know. Like I said before, if it wasn't for you, Brittany and Tim this message board would be boring.
