Olddog-- I am interested in your scissors-grip--do you just grab the lower jaw--sharp pointy little teeth and all? Or am I missing something? Sounds like a promising technique but I'd like to do it right...

ginabean - If you grab lower jaw from underneath you dont even touch the teeth. Another method is to make fist with hand and push to back of dogs mouth, dog now unable to close jaw down on your hand. Strong willed, dominant pup will often come back for another try, next time put fist in mouth and with other hand hold back of pups neck at same time for about 5 seconds, then release. Important, as with any correction for bad behaviour once started you must persist until the dog learns the lesson and gives in. Don't do it once or twice and then give in yourself, otherwise all you will have taught the dog is that he can win if he is persistent enough. Either of these two techniques work, they dont hurt the dog/pup but both methods cause discomfort and quickly make him realise that YOU indeed are the Leader, if only because you are more intelligent. Or at least as a species that is supposed to be the general scheme of things.LOL. Good Luck

Gina, Whisperer explains it all pretty well. Though I feel the scissor grip method is bit less messy than using fist. Thumb over front teeth pressing on insides of lower jaw - rest of fingers /hand underneath. Dog can't bite because jaw muscles become immobilised. Very easy, very effective - as Whisperer said, don't use it just once or twice - apply until all interest in biting a person is lost. Cheers.
