Is there any updates on more members sending in PENNHIP results to OFA?

Not going to read through the thread, I do know that at last contact, Fred Lanting was a big believer in Penn Hipp. He assisted in the only one I did.

And I see his point, and he really did write the book on HD.

At the end of the day, and I don't breed and never did much, I just want/wanted to know if the hips look good and if the lineage is good.

I'll take an OFA cert. from a litter full of OFA certs over a pass from any other service in a litter of fails.

Title of the book is Canine Hip Dysplasia and Other Orthopedic Problems by Fred Lannting.

Read Malcolm Willis's book/hip dysplasia chapters, and it's not an easy read, lol, definitely not a bedtime read for sure

It doesn't have to be either or, it is quite simple to do both. As a breeder, I much prefer PennHip as it gives you more information. But for breed surveys I use SV (never been a fan of OFA) - but both the SV and OFA use the same extended hip x-ray as PennHip so it's simple to send that x-ray to the desired certification organization while doing PennHip.

While obviously they each cover the admin & registration details of hip schemes on their own sides of the Atlantic, Malcolm Willis is often given credit by Fred Lanting as a source; and Malcolm was, after all, the professonal geneticist out of these 2 breeder/judges. Sadly Malcolm did not remain with us for long enough to really get into the merits of PENNHip.

geez, I apparently missed a lot.

Mr. Darcy, I did read Malcom's book and My edition of Fred's is autographed.

hund, the first GSD that Fred bought many decades ago had HD. Being a scientist, it set him off on a life long campaign, study, what can we do to correct. Don't know if you guys got "Dog World" (in the old days) over there. Fred was a main contributor to that magazine.

Before there was any such thing as the "interwebs", Fred was campaigning against HD/health issues in the GSD, long before I met him. And he paid a price for it in the AKC World.

And, anyone interested in hearing the rest of that story from my perspective, just ask.

and just to add, for discussion purposes only, wasn't Malcom the originator of " the sire of the sire is the grand sire of the dam" or some other nonsense shitz as that.

willing to discuss this issue as well, just from my experience only.
