Makes me cringe to see young dogs necks get constantly torqued like that, can't be good down the road. My GSD gets like that for detection work and fetch but still remains focused on the game and clear headed. It's nice at the beginning to have that kind of enthusiasm but not the best when the dog goes into a crazy bark and hold for a search at a real job. Looks kind of intimidating to clients.

Baron is clearly very well trained. He also seems absolutely happy in his situation. This is not necessarily more of a sign of 'intelligence' in the dog than a dog equally happy to be doing bitework (something that looks as though it does not feature in Linda's/Baron's household).

The thing that brings out the intelligence in any dog, of any breed, but particularly the smart GSD (and dumber ones do exist !), is a great bond with the owner and plenty of whatever kind of 'work' to do; keep 'em occupied and relating to you, and you'll always have a 'good' dog, often a 'great' one. The bonus with that depth of owner/dog relationship is that the dog will be well-behaved in general; but if you, as a human, want that depth of loyalty and help from your dogs, you have to be prepared to put in the time and the hard yards to achieve it.

Personally, I'd rather have Baron than the other dog. Baron looks like he is happy, healthy, well loved, and well socialized.

Baron looks a good deal more like what one expects a GSD to look like, too, IMO !

 

Despite the OP's title for the thred, there is hardly any point comparing these Mali-mix KNPV bloodlines to the purebred German Shepherd Dog, however good they are in certain arenas (or at being Top Stud, 8 years ago - which is what Berry ll seems most 'legendary' for).
