I also believe you can tell alot from a dogs eyes.his eyes a fixed calculated no panic shown. Ready for that comand. Imo if the frame of mind I correct and the training and targeting is done properly you should never need to let the dog go. One good shot will brake a face a rib.. I hate to see this scramble on the ground. The damage should be do before the aggresser hits the ground that is why we target. The most damage with the least conflict. bladeedge - eyes/focus...sure. but how do you know whether or not dog will panic unless you let the muzzled dog go into the threat? A decoy with a basic level of agility and break fall skills can handle a few high speed muzzle punches to the torso. I have. Fun. Street fights sometimes go to ground; dog should be familiar with basic grappling. lol dog-jitsu

Until we actually see the dog engage a human under the conditions mentioned above, it is just hypotheticals.
Blade my friend, most fights that involve humans end up on the ground, regardless of what anyone claims their fighting style is, hence why in Chinese energy boxing, there is a concept being taught called "dog fighting", or ground fighting.

Hired Your wrong about all fights going to the ground it. All depends on what you know 😉. But not to get into that I was just making a point About dog bite I disagree you should know weather the dog should bite by the way he shows himself. If the dog state of mind is correct he will bite.

"If the dog state of mind is correct he will bite."
surely. but you'll be surprised to know how many dogs (particularly ones in sport) could show great courage in familiar, many times repeated environment and having handler at back, will fall apart in not standard situation and without handler support behind them.
