The first German Shepherd was Mira von Offingen, imported by Otto Gross, who settled in North America and had it's first showing a year later in 1907. The German Shepherd first registered with the AKC in 1908. I just wanted to clear up a typo someone made about how the GSD came over in WW2. They started using them post ww1. In 1936 John Gans imported Sieger Pfeffer von Bern and in 1938 Sidney Heckert Imported Odin vom Busecker Schloss. Through their intense inbreeding and line-breeding and also outbreeding, these were dogs that molded the majority of our modern day lines. So if your GSD has good confirmation, temperment and working ability then it to is a great dog whether being AM or German line. I have a w.german line now...great dog but if I was to work another dog on the street with me again..E.German/czech lines for sure. I have seen very few w.german lines working throughout USA during yrs of PD1 and PD2 trials. Just my own thoughts though:)
