I know the ears don't reflect this, but coat color could be Dutch Shepherd. Could also be Great Dane if he's really tall. Cute pup.

Brindle Mountain Cur was the one I coudn't think of; I knew there was that type breed in brindle but couldn't remember the name. He definitely has Cur type ears and the facial structure is similar enough to look like that w/GSD.

Please let us know what the DNA reveals. The brindle gene is recessive and either very rare or gone - we cannot know which. You may want to consider putting his ears up (some gsd's need help) and taking a good look at him that way.
He's great looking IMO. There was a guy breeding mastiffs and great danes to shepherds out west years ago and he claimed they were the smartest dogs he had ever known.

Well we got his DNA back from AKC, he does not match the supposed father. (But after what AKC told me it doesn't suprise me there are shepherds with floppy ears because they may not be all pure behind them. They are not even gonna pull his papers that is crazy to me. He gets limited registration, are they nuts? They even told me if I bred him his offspring would have to be DNA'd 3 generations and then could move to full registration. I said to her are you crazy he's a mutt! I now understand why the rare breeds do not want to be accepted by AKC they just want their money and will register just about anything)
We think he may be a lab cross his feet seem a little webbed and looking more lab like the older he gets. He is a very smart puppy though and very loyal he's pretty much my shadow.
He is great with my friends 4 year old twin girls, one of them even made him a ballet dress out of tissue paper with a big yellow heart because she loves him so much. He was so patient and even wore it without tearing it.
He's gonna make a great family dog for us. Our next dog will be full Shepherd without an Oops! This has been a learning experience for sure.
Guess there's a reason he's supposed to be in our lives.

Could be part mastiff (ears sty down.)
If it was more shepherd-like, some Belgian or Dutch breeds carry a normal brindle coat variation.

I'm thinking more lab, he is only 45.5 lbs at 19 weeks old.

Where'd the brindle come from in a Lab? I don't see Lab. I see hunting breed...some kind of hound. Those ears appear big for a Lab....more houndish.
Still a cutie! Keep the pics coming please. I want to see him grow up.

Here is an article that explains possiblity of brindle out of Lab.
/homepage.usask.ca/~schmutz/brindle.html
My pups mother was a sable german shepherd with black, and black and tans behind her.
The 2 pups out of the litter that had a different father was mine which the older he gets is dark sable over his back and brindle color on his legs.
His front feet are webbed and has a lab looking eye.
The other pup was soild black with small amount of white on chest, looking just like a lab pup.
Where we live its a small town LOTS of Labs (I think they must be the state dog).
