I am feeling pretty proud after reading the last posts. My family pet German Shepherd flushed out a deer on our walk the other day.Chased it to the edge of the forest with my husband and I watching in awe at how fast she could run. Once the deer scooted to the forest edge we called her and she came running right back to us. Good girl!
She was probably very happy to come running back to us, as I don't think she would have know what to do if she had even remotely caught up to it. And, she only cost us $500 bucks and a case of beer!!

There's one command I proof all my dogs on. It is to be used only in case of emergencies, such as the dog flushing a cat or rabbit, and possibly chasing it across a busy road. I expect immediate obedience, and it has saved my dog's life in the past, as well as preventing one of my dogs from being sprayed by a skunk.
That command is "HALT!!"
