nothing is stopping your friend from breeding, she just won't have the ability to register with the AKC.  people put restrictions on all the time for all sorts of reasons, if you don't like it, find a breeder that has the dogs you like and the requirements you can handle and get one from there. Problem solved.

Psycht
Definately not referring to you!
In fact, I was just making a general statement,
however there are some posters that would fit
my comment and may feel singled out. You are
not one of them

Read the post on Estella on the GS side,THAT is why some people limit breeding rights on their dogs. Why should a dog have to be rehomed, because she wouldn't stand .There are some people that just don't want to sell, "disposable dogs".

For the morally self-righteous: Why in the first place do you even support or place importance in a registry organization that clearly HAS no respectable standards?  The answer's simple really, it's about money and marketability.  You probably even test for DM to enhance your respectable image, ha ha.

And you probably don't test because you are a cheap b@st@rd, har har har. I'm just plain ol' righteous.

It wasn't a gsd it was one of them white fluffy dogs Bichon frise (can't spell it) This got me thinking though. Do people put contracts on stud dogs? Or is it the expectations for a hip scored bitch only etc made through verbal agreements

IMO to say that the breeders who sell on limited registration are scared of competition is ridiculous.  I am sure there may be some people out there who feel that way - I have seen a few BYB websites where they use limited reg and I have wondered why as their dogs are from "nothing" pedigrees, not titled - so why would they care how their puppies are bred?

but the majority of GOOD breeders who utilize limited registration could care less about that.  In fact most good breeders I know support each other, help each other, recommend each other and work together!  Which is how it should be!

I feel strongly that dogs should be titled before being bred.  I do that with my own breeding dogs, I do not want my puppies out there being bred irresponsibly.  I use limited registration.  If someone does not like that, they can either talk to me about it and maybe we can come up with a solution (I am always open to working with people) or they are free to go elsewhere.  There are a lot of breeders who do not use limited registration.  So far, the only people that I have had who did not want limited registration where those who wanted to breed but did not plan to do anything else with the dog (no training/titling at all).  Well that's fine, my puppies are not what they are looking for then and they went elsewhere.

But scared of competition? LOL That is a joke!  If someone wants to breed one of my puppies, I am all for it if done responsibly and more than willing to help them as much as I can! I would not only help them along the way and with the breeding but also refer people to them for the pups when they would arrive!

workingdogz - I also find it rather funny to see people breeding untitled/tested dogs and selling the resulting puppies on limited registration.  Seems rather silly to require people to do things that you do not even do yourself with the puppies parents?  Does not make much sense to me.

GSD2727,
"So far, the only people that I have had who did not want limited registration where those who wanted to breed but did not plan to do anything else with the dog (no training/titling at all)."- Same here...

I used "limited registration" as a tactic few times to scare away potential 'buyers' who were interested in buying a female from great CH. pedigree to breed. I have nothing against breeding my female pups when they are fully grown and tested. I do sell to approved 'breeding homes' and I'm not afraid of 'competition'. But I am extremely wary of people who are planning on breeding one of my females her first heat with the 'AKC reg. male' they currently own...
