Can you afford the vet bills? Can you afford to have the dog on heartworm prevention and flea/tick prevention? What about the food? If you can't afford the dog, you probably can't afford these either. What do you want a GSD for anyway? Why not go to your local shelter and adopt a good dog that fits your lifestyle? They're good dogs, need homes, and their adoption fee are low, and they tend to come spayed and neutered. I, too, would like a free GSD, from great bloodlines, preferably titled with excellent hips and elbows, no DM, and great work drives and temperment. It's never going to happen. If it's free, there's probably a problem with it. You get what you pay for. If you are not certain you could pay for the dog, like in any emergency situation, you don't need one. What if the dog bloats? What if it gets into something it doesn't need to be in (anything from chemicals, to getting bitten by something, to getting stuck in something)? Will you be able to pay the high vet bills? Think these questions out first, before you get a dog.
I agree with Macrowe1, the cheapest part about dog ownership is the purchase price...
Instead of bitching at the person... offer advice, and information on how much a gsd may cost and how much hard work will need to be put in. Stop your igronance, be actual breeders and offer help before insult
Not bitching, but I do not know a single person who is going to give away a great GSD for free. There's usually health problems or temperment problems if they're free. Plus, if the guy is asking for one for free, I highly doubt he can pay for what they need, like a good quality food, heartworm and intestinal preventitive, flea/tick preventative, vaccines, things that the dog needs. I think it's being a good breeder to state things like this. If someone came to me and asked for a pup for free, I'd be saying the same thing. If you cannot afford to pay for one, you probably can't afford to own one.
OP, if you want a GSD, a purebred with good genetics and papers, you're looking at $800 and up. If you look for a purebred with not very good genetics, and maybe papers, you're looking at a couple hundred. If you're looking at rescues, you're looking at whatever fees they have. This can be as little as $75 to as much as $400.
Sorry Browser but the person posted on a dog SALE sight I think they know how much dogs cost. Like where I live, they want the best for the cheapest and want to sell the cheapest for the best.

Browser,
We are not bitching about anything or anybody. Stevo is on the receiving end of the honest reactions of people who breed, own and sell quality dogs.
I will state it again - "the most affordable aspect of dog ownership is its purchase price".
Stevo got off on the wrong foot with all of us by making the first and presumably most important consideration for him in dog ownership as FREE. I quote: "I Want a free GSD.[...] If I can afford to take care of one..."
it wasnt aimed at all of you lol It was just aimed at certain ones lol
Though i agree i cant think of one person given a GSD away for free without it having problems
I think the OP needs to look at local shelters and maybe check out breeders in his area but the price of a puppy can be expensive. Hence why i havent bought my second yet.
I want a free Mali, should I start a new thread?
There is an older Mal in a shepherd rescue here in Vegas. The dog gets adopted then I see him back at the rescue. Not sure if it is the owner or the dog but I think its sad....Anyone interested?
