That would possibly make sense.

Personally if the written test were dropped I wouldn't loose sleep over it.

How long is acceptable that a dog delay in sitting or platzing in movement ?..At times it takes Prince about 1-2 steps before he will sit or platz while in motion .....

Well, it's not desired but if your dog does the exercise you will not fail, just won't get full points if he doesn't do it correctly or perfectly.  Some judges will give you a score, others won't.  It's a pass/fail overall.

Does the judge ever require that your dog be touched or handled by anyone other then the handler?....

For the BH I did most recently, the only touching was checking the tattoo.  I'm not sure if the judge touched my dog or not, but he would have to lean in close enough to read it.  I do not allow strangers to walk up and handle my dogs - even though they are safe, stable dogs and would not have a problem - and that goes for trials as well.  We did have to do some exercises where we did informal heeling in figure 8s around men, tied our dogs to trees and had other dogs, joggers, a car, etc go by, but no one touched my dog.

Prince does not have a tattoo or a chip. Does that disqualify him from participating?....

Yes, I believe he must be uniquely identified by either a tat or chip.

RLHAR, my daughter didn't take a written exam last year nor did her friend a few weekends ago, I was told it was removed some time ago?

VI,

Every trial I've been too in the past 4 years that is USA sanctioned has required it.  In fact I've seen people failed in the BH for failing to pass the written exam even if their dog passed the rest of the test.

Personally I'd be happy to see it fade into the sunset but thus far we've had to administer and submit the tests to USA with the trial paperwork.

Thank you to all;  does not seem too stringent;  CGC which is AM equivalent of German BH requires that you have a stranger come up to your dog and brush them (with your brush, you have to bring your own)  my bitch would probably run off.  She hates grooming.  Is that not stupid?

But really, thank you to all, I will do my reading further.  Nan

                     Steve & VKGSD....Thanks for the feedback....: )

BTW...Does anyone have a personal video of their dog performing for a BH that you wouldn't mind posting....????

Also, I did not realize that a CGC was a equivalent to a BH..????

Ruger 1

In terms of being a temperment test and a test of the dog as a companion animal I'd say yes, the CGC and BH are in the same vein.

However, just to be clear the CGC does not replace the BH in terms of then being able to go on with Schutzhund titles.

Well it's american's equivalent;  don't think the concept is as good but that is what we use.  Ugh.  Don't even like it.  Senseless.  Nan

The CGC can be obtained at your local petsmart. I believe it is 10 dollars and the dog is totally on leash. You show that your dog can do very minor obedience and your dog will sit while greeting another person and their dog. Not even close to similar.

Don't forget the grooming by a stranger.

Which is one of the many reasons I never pursued it for my dogs.
