Thanks for the suggestion Malndobe. I am thinking about building a whole new one. That one is just thrown together with some old scrap wood from a deck we took apart lol!

I'd worry about how fast Cam turns around after he lands--seems like it encourages him to land off balance, maybe torqueing a joint or ligamentation, instead of landing square and straight (like in the other video linked).

Your vid really makes me want to build some more obstacles, though! I taught my first GSD to climb a metal ladder and come down the slide on an old-style metal playground slide that was about 8 feet high. We had a lot of fun with stuff like that.

Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, not looking for controversy, but what do you think is harder to train, a retrieve over a meter without chewing and correct fronts, or a 2 meter wall? Like I said, not looking to say one is harder than the other. I think both show a great deal about the dog. A great trainer can get any dog to do a retrieve over the meter. Personally, I think it is easier to get a dog to do a 2 meter without all the junk of the retrieve, but it is more about the dog, where the retrive showcases training more.

That's awesome point. Except we seek to test more than trainability in Schutzhund. Before it was removed, there was both the retrieve over the hurdle AND the wall.

My idea is for the Schutzhund 1 is to become a regional only trial 1 held in the  spring and 1 held in the fall and make it a 3 day event. The Friday would be a schutzhund trial with items like the vertical wall, attack on the handler, and the old style schutzhund catch. All dogs would work on the same helpers Show and Working lines. Saturday would be a conformation show and Sunday a koer Class. All three must be completed to achieve there Sch 1 title.

This way you get more dogs in the survey, The Sch1 is after all a breeding title and should be tested strongly for the title. and you make sure all dogs see the same pressure and show the proper temperment and work ethic.

Of course this would be only for the GSD dog. But that,s what the concern is for the breed.

A level and proper test that everyone should be able to agree on.

And these videos are reasons why we have an 8 ft. privacy fenced yard versus a 6 ft. :)

I threw this contraption together to utilize the back porch for detection training. The height being nose level works great for the passive alert.

schutz. has veered away from truly testing the dogs and eliminated a lot of different things over the years. mainly to let more of the weaker dogs compete so that financially the game can grow. Just as in professional sports.
