Good - Then sick around..... Oh wait looks like you already are

by Rik on 07 March 2011 - 22:03
sjbo, hope you reconsider. I had a bouv for 13 years and have enjoyed reading about yours. As has been mentioned, the forum is now clearly marked all breeds.
I have not been involved in any forum where people are happy with everything. People here are like people everywhere, some you like immediately, some kind of grow on you and some would bring a smile if they fell down a flight of stairs.
best with whatever you decide,
Rik

sjbo,
You need to keep in mind that this was primarily a GSD forum when it started and has a large GSd following. The GSD has the most active board and probably the most members. There are all levels of dog owners on this forum from pet owners to competitive Showline folks and working line folks. Though most of the knowledgeable working dog people have gone elsewhere, a few still lurk and post occasionally.
One of your first threads was GSD's vs Bouv's. I'll add a quote from your post:
About 12 years ago I switched breeds and went to Bouvier Des Flandre's. I have had much of the same successes with them that I did with GSD's. The difference is I have found the Bouviers to be much healthier as a breed. More stable metally and sounder structurally.
That is your opinion of the two breeds. I have decoyed for many many Bouv's. I actually was the decoy and track layer at the 2005 NAWBA Nationals. I understand both breeds and I think you may have insulted many GSD people right off the bat with that statement. I have yet to find a Bouv that is more mentally stable than my GSD or many others. It's nice to have passion for your breed, but remember you are not the only one that is passionate about their breed on this forum.
I can understand your not wanting to stay on this forum. You came here looking for something and didn't find what you were looking for. Believe me, I understand exactly how you feel. You really shouldn't feel insulted by the GSD folks on this forum most have no clue about GSD's, Bouvs or any other dog.

Good post Slamdunc,
I have also found that if you are sincere in wanting to learn something, there usually is a good chance you'll get the help you need. If you encounter some thorns along the journey to expand what you thought you knew about dogs, and the people who are owned by them, just yank them out and keep on moving.
I can't tell you how many people I've changed my mind about on this place, since I've been posting, it's like anything else, we get to know each other after awhile... all our faults and blessings, forever unfolding, and in the end sharing life with each other and our dogs.

Yeah Jim pointed out biggest point, how the OP started with his post. After I read that I quickly ignored anything they said

Having had both my opening remarks were my opinion and my reasons for changing breeds. It had nothing to do with anyone here or what they are doing. Talk about being thin skinned. But as I am finding out there are some in this forum that are blind to any other breed and see no faults in their own unless its a competitor of theirs or a line they don't own. Then they can really get nasty.
"Yeah Jim pointed out biggest point, how the OP started with his post. After I read that I quickly ignored anything they said" Pretty narrow minded I doubt you even thought about it until Jim mentioned it.

Ace, you are a bundle of negativity. Quite a few posters have reacted like this, for instance Mainly Max and Pirates Lair come to mind of one's who were originally affronted and subsequently consoled and thereby accepted as for real.
So ignore away, and you lose a chance to know someone.

sjbo,
To be clear, I will add that I do like Bouviers. If I wanted a serious, very civil working dog to protect my property or be a PPD I would consider a Bouvier. The ones I worked were fun to decoy for, yet very serious and all about the man. Many only bit the sleeve because it was put in front of their face. The hold and bark was dangerous as eye contact meant getting bit in the face by some of them. Not for novice decoys. They were friendly when not working but serious when working. The ones I worked were very sharp and would bite for real, not show line dogs. You always had to be on your A game when working them it was serious business.
