I expect the LE Dept involved had checked out the groomer,
were satisfied s/he knew what s/he was doing, and had used
their services for ages. Shit happens; sometimes dogs get
loose accidentally, from anywhere. Fact that its a Police Dog
doesn't make it bullet-proof. There can always be that rogue
element where some other person comes in and leaves a door
open when they shouldn't, etc, 'cos they don't realise the need
for security. Could just as easily of happened at a Vet surgery;
Police Dogs troop in and out of my Vet's without special
arrangements all the time, except that the Unit has its own day
of the week when all non-urgent cases get seen ...
Hope they find him okay.
There was one German Shepherd I remember, who escaped from being kenneled at a vets. No one could believe how it happened until the security camera's revealed how the GSD did an amazing Houdini act and freed himself! There were umpteen obstacles to figure out and a security door, and that smarty pants dog escaped himself! Maybe someone else here remembers that, too!
So, as much as I find it incredible that this LE K9 is lost, these GSD's we love because they are such wonderful thinkers, are sometimes too smart for their own good!
I hope they have found him by now!
Wow, sure hope this dog is found soon. He's probably trying to find his way home. It is not unusual for LE k-9s for a LE dog to be taken to the groomer at times. As far as the dog escaping, s**t happens, but this is a serious mess up on the part of the groomer.
It does sound kind of fishy. I can't imagine a police dog being left alone at a groomers. Aren't these dogs invaluable with the amount of training they have. Especially after reading on here that Protection Dogs sell in the tens of thousands of dollars. Did he escape or was he stolen?
Bronco was found.

Before we fault a GROOMER< Let us think back about AL Govednik's Dog ( HEX) that disappeared out his front yard and is gone forever.
TOP trained dog in his OWNERS possession, no groomer, no vets office..
Thank the LORD this dog was found
Bet BRONCO doesn't ever need grooming Again!!
Hell, we're still missing a MI State Police K9 up here in the North...it's been a bit over 2 yrs since the dog bolted when a fawn flushed and ran from under the dog's nose. Not a word of the dog since then, not a single confirmed sighting, and so far, no remains ever found, either. That it happened two days before rifle season for deer opened, but was kept quiet for those two days, leads most up here to believe the dog was probably shot by a hunter-- it's not uncommon for hunters to shoot stray dogs if they think they are running deer; also possible the dog was mistaken for a coyote, being a dark sable w/no K9 vest or badge. When the lost dog was finally publicized, the night before opening day, it was unlikely at that point that if someone shot the dog they were going to come forward and admit it...
They ARE dogs, as others have pointed out, and are capable of doing things which are extremely intelligent--and also those which are extremely stupid. Glad to hear this dog was recovered.
Yes, Hexi , and I have preached since I got into this breed, DO not ever , trust your Superior German shepherd ,you trained and has every title known to man, and you make statements OH my Pride and JOy would never bolt a command..." to not errupt out of his minute of domestic trained to WILD in the moment it is "MY prey.CATCH" OR I am free, RUN RUN RUN....
Dogs do not reason.
GOD didn't make Little Green Apples " either.
ALL prey animals , big or small, will revert back out of their comfort zone of training by YOU and can bolt to their INSTINCT of Survival which YOU did not put in that dog.
