NOT ALL DOGS-stop eating before having puppies, and
Not all dogs start nesting days in advance, and
Not even all dogs produce milk days or even hours prior to giving birth.
I am now, between pups being born, two so far. Today is day 63, Sophie ate a nice big bowl of chicken and rice this morning, and was just a little on the anxious side before I went to the store.
Even tho I had a nice whelping spot set up for her, she chose to start without me, on my new couch.

58-64 days from inception. Make sure thermometer is accurate if you must use one. She will start acting restless and pacing. Then you will be close. She won't want to eat or drink.
This is not true for all dogs, but has been my experience. Best of luck!

She is 11 months old, she is going to turn 1 about 3 days after delivery. She has always had a big apetit and never had any morning sickness, she ate regularly through her whole pregnancy so far, except for the increase in food. I was worried yesterday because she was pacing and acting funny, she fine today. As for the thermometer it is brand new, bought it three days ago. its digital. Im sorry to hear about your ew chouch :( I have many options for my girl if she doesnt choose her box. At least my couch is old and leather lol. Also for the milk not coming unti after the pups are born, out of experiance I know for a fact that that is true. I was watching my aunts dog. she didnt look or act pregnant-no enlarged tits or apetite, most of all she didnt even have a bely, she kept her fit shape all through out- and gave birth under my table while we were camping, she had 6 healthy pups. my girl is expecting 4. Thank god its not a big littler lol.

And people bash breeders, claiming they add to the homeless numbers. Allowing a mongrel to get bred not once but twice....and you want to breed her in a couple years to keep a pup? I don't get it.

I currently have two dogs, one is pregnant and one is spayed. the one who is spayed is older, since she is having a small littler now and ALL of the puppies are spoken for there are many who still want one which means that in that case I will allow her one more littler before being spayed so 1, I will be able to keep one this time and 2, The pups wont be hard to find new homes as I have a wait list from my Family and Friends who want one. I do not apprechiate people bashing me bcause one, this was an accident and two next time will be planned, I come to this site for advise, if I wanted to know whether I should spay her or not that would be my question. I would like for anyone who has a comment about that to leave it to themselves otherwise please remain on this particular subject thank you.

Who's "bashing" and who said "spay" ? Once is an accident, twice ??? Any way, who cares, it's a free country.

I will say to you what I say to others, Before you INTENTIONALLY breed your mix breed bitch, please do a google search of your local shelters.
The majority of shelter dogs were placed in good homes that for 1 reason or another they lost. Now they are waiting on death row HOPING they will live to see tomorrow, never mind a kind word or even human contact, never a cuddle or caress except for those that come in to spread a little love to keep the dogs adoptable.
They get to sit there and watch the dogs in the kennel next to theirs get taken out by a catch pole, the last thing that dog on the catch pole knows is terror that something is on its neck, frantically looking for its people, the ones that raised it and cuddled with it while it was a cute puppy, that fed it and played with it, that for whatever reason allowed it to end up in a shelter. No one wanted it so now it dies. In the meantime, your pup gets to watch this play out, smells the anal glands that were blown in fear.. listens constantly to the terror filled barking and yelping, not knowing what will come next. THIS is a very real future for the pups that you find homes for.
So you will keep a pup out of this litter, and have homes for the others. With any luck the pup will be what you want it to be but more than likely it will be lacking and you may have to find it another home.
PLEASE spay your bitch so that future pups wont end up in a shelter, thrown away or dead. The litter she is preg with now, thats a done deal, we can only hope their owners are capable of keeping them for life.
The only animals life that you have any control over is the one you own, the best intentioned people have shit happen, life changes and its always the dog that is the most expendable.
This dog was once a loved pet, Does he look like a dog that is thrown away to you? He was dumped in a shelter and rescued shortly before he was to be euthanized.

And for FAR to many, "that rescue NEVER comes",.
So Angie, I ask for the love of your dog, and her pups, and their pups,
Please, just keep a pup from this litter for yourself, and have her spayed.
And I am in no way trying to berate you, just get yourself on the mailing list of dog rescues, and I guarantee you your heart will be broken, EVERYDAY.
If you are prepared to keep these pups, and care for them for the rest of their lives, then there is no problem.
Otherwise, keep in mind, "The Road to Hell Is Paved with Good Intentions".

With the pups she is having now, I know everyone who will be taking one, they are taying in the family, my family will keep any dog wether its perfect or not, we do not believe in the pound or shelter. As for me if I keep one I really dont care if its missing an eye or its attitude isnt great or it comes out demented, I have two beautiful dogs right now that I love unconditionally and will never want to be rid of them, when we have to move I make sure my dogs are accepted otherwise we dot go or if we have to go visit someone, we leave them alone for no more than 4 hours at a time. I will never have to bring my pet to a shelter. or even a kennel to be watched, worse place ever!. As for spaying her, I would like to in the future but, I have seen to many female dogs go cross after either having a heat and then getting fixed or having pups and then getting fixed, my aunts dog had one littler by accident few years ago and they spayed her right away, last year she killed a small dog and attacked three others, without warning! I do not want this for my girl as she is a gentle loving girl. My aunts dog was just like my girl, loved everyone and everything. Now she cant even trust her with new people. This is why she is not getting spayed. As for a second littler, I am not 100% sure I will let her have anotherone. It has just been a thought we have to see how these pups turn out, if they are healthy, if she stays healthy etc... thanks for your concern about that but its just a thought that is so far not being put into motion.

Angie, it's the hormonal changes of pregnancy that cause the aggression to surface in the female. My friend's dog was just like you describe with your aunt's dog. Her personality totally changed after she had her first litter. I got a pup from that litter, and when my pup was 7 months old, she attacked it. and likely would have killed it if we hadn't been right there to stop her.
She is now very aggressive towards all other dogs, and likely should be PTS. Spaying her did not change her attitude.
