Duke,

Most of Raiser's RSV members (according to the article) prefer dogs with Stephanitz qualities of medium thresholds, good nerves and pronounced aggression and not Malinois type qualities of very high drive with relative thin nerves.

In my opinion it is not the dog that has to be changed to appear better in sport, as some are trying to do, but the sport that has to come back to being tests for the true GSD temperament.
Since the 80's the SV has been sleeping while the Malinois people have managed to model the sports to their dogs. Do I realy care is my dog sits a little crooked or does not fly all the time. No. I want a thinking dog that is not a basket case in the home and who will show no fear and love to fight. Lets get back to basics.

yes I read the article and today heard about some interesting discussions going on in the top of judges and it lookes like Helmut is right that the influential judges who are malinois minded are trying to shape the rules in adventage of that breed. I will talk to some judges tomorrow and see about this but it seems to be a bigger issue then i thought

there is some serious discussion going on between judges, part of the judges want to see the qualities of the dog while working, and another part of them wants to see the program period, even in bitework they see everything as obedience exercises , the last part is judges who have malinois themselves .qurious to see where this  will lead

I think this subject would make for an intresting seperate thread. I wonder what most GSD people feel about thiese subjcts:

Should the IPO biting exercises be judges as a OB exercise or as indication of fighting drive, courage and a combination of prey/defence?

Do the GSD people on this forum want to se a return to the Stephanitz qualities of medium high prey and medium thresholds, good nerves and pronounced aggression or do they want Malinois type qualities of very high drive with relative thin nerves for sport?

I put it in a new topic
