Just got the DNA results back, and turns out he's pretty much Heinz-57. The purebred breeds in his lineage though are Boxer, Vizsla, Whippet, and some Spaniel. I can definitely see the boxer in the chest and brindle, the Whippet in the legs, and the Vizsla in the face. The results are suggested a fair amount of lab in the mixed breed components of his lineage. In other words, he's a true Mutt. Notably, there's no shepherd, pit, or mastiff in the results.
Thanks for the input though - good times.

I think I adopted a puppy from the same litter! The Mom was a Shepard/Terrier mix and the Brindle comes from a boxer! Our puppy is the smartest dog and incredibly trainable! Will post some pictures.

those DNA tests don't have pitbull as one of the options - so you can even dna test a "purebred" pit and it will come back as various other breeds. I still say he's a pit mix - boxer would give him the black mask, and yes there certainly could be several other breeds in there. cute pup - how big is he now?

Interesting! Why is that?

the dna tests only have a handful or two of "purebred" breeds - pitbull is not a recognized purebred breed (with akc anyway) - but even amstaff isn't on their list, or wasn't the last time I heard about this dna test. In fact there have been pedigreed/papered purebred dogs tested with results being several other breeds who obviously were not involved in the dogs' heritage - including a black/white purebred/papered/pedigreed am staff who came back border collie, boston terrier, and some other small breed I can't remember - no am staff or even other similar breeds.
so I would take that dna test with a big grain of salt.

He is a dead ringer for my Angeline. She had a purebred Black Lab mother and brindle Pit Bull father. Two siblings, with her the only brindle. She even has the white patch on her chest, and darker nose.
