Thanks for the info on Metronidazole. I have already stopped it. Hopefully he will start to improve.

It wouldn't hurt to start him on some milk thistle extract, too, if he's not already on it, to help with the liver's recovery. Hope to see a post from you saying he's turned the corner and back to normal. Anytime your dog is sick, it's worrisome at the very least, but when it involves neurological signs the degree of helplessness you feel is unreal, isn't it?

Thanks to everyones ideas. Nieko is doing sooo much better today. I would say about 90% himself. Druing my research on metronidazole I found some very interesting journal articles. One that tried Valium as a treatment toxicty due to the metronidazole and they had great success with faster recovery times. After reading the signs of toxicity he was almost textbook.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

That's wonderful news, animalzoo! Metronidazole is a valuable tool in the medical arsenal, but there are those dogs (and people) that it just doesn't agree with for a sustained course of treatment, and it sounds like your Nieko can now be counted among that group. Fortunately there are other antimicrobials that can be used when necessary instead of metronidazole; just make sure that any vet who sees him knows the he's sensitive to its effects.

Another "plus" is that in my metro research, it seems that most make a full or nearly full recovery from even severe neurological effects once therapy is stopped. Fingers crossed that your boy is no exception!!!
