I am very sorry to hear about all the health issues you and Carl are having to deal with this year, Jackie. I probably wouldn't have been much fun while I was there last month, running like a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs, pretty stressed out looking over my shoulder the whole time I was there. The only person I got a chance to spend a little time with was Lizzie (my co-owner on T) at Sapore in Lehighton, but it was great seeing her again, if only for an hour or so.
UPDATE, for those who may be interested-
Things are steadily becoming better for me, having finally found a job a few months back. It isn't much of a job, nothing like I used to have, doesn't pay much, but it does allow me a little bit of comfort I didn't have for so long, and some much-needed self-esteem after being unemployed for so damned long. I still only have an 8' x 9' rented room, in a 600 sq ft house, but I am well enough off that if I pull up my undies and the waist-band comes off, nowadays I don't have to get out a needle and thread and sew them up. LOL I can buy a brand new pair instead. Unfortunately, we are in Year 3 of the divorce, which keeps me quite broke outside dog maintenance for T, Bijou and Xena, rent, gas, and the bare essentials for myself. My only involvement in dogs is monthly donations to GSD Rescue organizations, helping network needy dogs get out of the kill shelters and into better places as much as I can.
There is a little house on two acres not far from here, in a fairly civilized neighborhood, predicted to come up for rent in the next few months. The rent is on par with a one-bedroom apartment. No, it is NOT fancy, LOL, but comfortably liveable I'm told, and my 2 remaining well-behaved GSD's (and a foster or two!) are welcome, as soon as the suspected drug dealer currently occupying it is fully evicted. Ha ha ha. I have my heart set on the place, so I am looking for some part-time work on weekends, to make a few extra bucks to put towards rent and move-in deposits. HAZMAT clean up would, of course, delay my taking possession of the house, but hopefully the guy isn't cooking meth in the house so that won't be necessary, and the presence of the local drug enforcement team for the last several weeks is bound to discourage residual visits from undesireable elements, especially once the bust takes place.
Note to Dopers- Never rent a house across the street from a LE officer assigned to the local Drug Task Force. :-)
Overall, even though my lifestyle is nothing like what it used to be, probably never will be again, I am happy. I will never regret having left the bad situation, grateful for all the help I received in the process of the escape and all the way to California, blessed for every day away from that jerk.
Life is good.
Merry Christmas,
Shell

Merry Christmas Shelley!
Glad you and your crew are all doing well.
I hope you are able to get that place you speak of. I'm sure you'd appreciate more room.
All the best!

No sign of the cancer returning nearly 1.5 years post-splenectomy/tumor resection either.
At 11.5 yrs of age, I know his time with me on earth is limited, but I treasure every moment of it.
