Starrchar,

I have to add my 2 cents - unfortunately you are wrong. There are poor dogs in every line.

The 2009 Am & Can best of breed – the best dog in structure was GV Ch. Tazzman's Aregon - strong, noble, big boned, masculine, fluid movement with great presence. Clear coming and going - single tracking, etc. I happen to think that he's a great example of a good structure - especially on a loose lead. If you would see him in person you would be more than impressed unless you are ‘line blind’. I would be proud to own a GSD like him.

Every AKC sanctioned show (even small local) has its best of breed dog.

Stacking has a lot to do with how angulated they look. Bad stacking is the #1 reason of making them look so horrible. And the angle that you take your picture from has a lot to do with it as well.

Most fans of German show lines and W/L see AmLines only on pictures. And of course "what I have is better" attitude always prevails. Visit AKC Nationals and see the best AmLine dogs in person. Than you can comment. Westminster show that you can see on TV is not a representation of the best of AmLine GSDs, AKC Nationals are.

I agree that laughing at advertisers, or anybody for that matter, doesn’t speak highly of us.

Vikram, show us a picture of your dog. I bet you like him a lot and your are proud of him. How would you feel is we would publicly discuss how absolutely hideous it is?

Here is my girl - is she in your opinion absolutely hideous, too? She is pure AmLine and this picture has been taken without stacking her...

Hardly 'hideous', Vikram.  Clearly not to your tastes, overstretched by German-style conformation stack standards, for sure, and looks to have a much straighter shoulder than is my preference, but she's dead-on for American or Canadian Kennel Club conformation showrings.   Probably a combination of North American (US and Canadian) conformation lines and European conformation lines.  Nice, tight little feet; well-angled, strong pasterns; well-muscled and conditioned, lovely head with a typey, feminine expression.  The Photoshopping to remove the judge and handler from the picture does interfere with the topline, making the neck appear longer than it is and the withers seem significantly lower than they actually are.

While she's not my type, I certainly find her structure preferable to the 'broken-backed' look that continues to pervade the European highlines because dogs with that structure keep placing well in the BSZS.

Niesia, nice looking dog you have there.

Hexe very nice critique. Thank you for explaining about the phtoshopping--I have looked at this ad before and I knew there was something not quite right but I couldn't figure it out. DUH.
Niesia great post. Geez you have a stunning girl. Man she could sleep in my bed anytime. LOL.  I went to the Nationals 3 yrs ago in Beaumont and I was definately impressed with what I saw there. The sable girl that went GV (can't spell female victor) was as nice as any dog around. Stable nerves, outgoing, confident. And the young girl that handled her was awesome. I also went to a speciality in May in Ok City and the dog that went breed in the first show was a very very nice boy. I could definately see him herding all day long. His name is Charbo's Key Largoh v Marjo. He is a Sel CH.
You're absolutely right that there are poor dogs of every line. I've seen them, I've had them.
Here is my Mauli--without breaking it all down, she is about 2/3 American and 1/3 German wl/DDR--I guess she is hideous too.

Vonissk,

Mali IS a beautiful GSD and you should be proud of her, she is an impressive looking girl. Sables are my favourites and I always wanted to have one. BUT I didn't choose my girls for her coat color or type...

I personally prefer the look of AmLines but there are outsdanding GSDs in every line.

Vikram,

You very rarely, if ever, respond to the posts you put out!  Have a little backbone after your post!  Go ahead an post your dog for a critique!

Pridams, Dude, Hexe, Neisia...

I've seen a lot worst. I've seen dogs for sale here that have those camel backs like the photo that GSDguy08 posted. I don't believe for a moment that its due to bad stacking. I've done plenty of bad stacking with my dogs, and not once have I gotten a photo of where their backs became giant size mountains.

Here's a very bad stack picture of Zambi taken a long time ago

Another poor stack

A better stack picture of her

Theirs no way that I could get Zambi's back to look the way that dogs back was without snapping her back in the process.

GSDGuy, that is the most AWFUL steep croup I have ever seen!

The pic the OP linked to would look better if the bitch were in a more moderate stack, but I certainly think her structure is 100% better than the German showline GSDGuy posted! The American line (actually she's Canadian, from near Sudbury, Ont.) is a bit low-stationed, and the stack exaggerates that feature, and of course, the horrible photoshopping job does her no favours either.

While not one of these dogs is a dog that suits my personal taste, I think it simply cruel to speak of any animal in terms like "WTF is this?" Anything anyone deems "hideous" is a result of human intervention and someone's idea of beauty....it's never the dog's fault and I just hate to hear/read statements like this. I must be getting really soft lately, because this stuff is really getting under my skin these days. Poor dogs.

Sunsilver, do know that isn't my dog. I saw it on an advertisement.
