Hmmm, I was eating a sandwhich while watching these vids...still eating...what's gross or offensive about pups eating??

I regret I did not have the video camera running this morning when I lopped off the head of a cull rooster to make chicken breakfast for preggo Kyra. She crunched up the head first and then eviscerated it. Nothing left now but a couple of wing feathers.
Unless one is imposing vegetarianism upon one's dogs, to state that this is "disgusting" is hypocritical. At one point, the meat source in all nutritionally balanced dog food looks like this.
Also, feeding this way brings out lots of instinct, and shows us some interesting things about Jenni78's little carnivores. For example-was purple very dominant and/or food motivated? Was the orange collared puppy who stopped eating when her foot got bitten a softer puppy? Volhard be damned-this kind of puppy testing is of much more interest to me.

ROTFLMAO!!

Sorry, that just REALLY tickled my funnybone!

I don't have a problem with the vids, though I'm not a fan of raw feeding. However, I've been around farms enough to see farm dogs with things such as fresh-killed groundhogs, severed chicken heads or whole birds that died of natural causes. No matter what's in the can of dogfood in the way of meat, it all once had skin, fur or feathers on it, and city kids NEED to know where their food comes from!

I just watched the two videos and didn't find them disgusting at all (it's lunch time here). I've been speculating for a week now what there was to eat on a goat head so thanks for clearing that up for me.

My husband doesn't understand why children can't watch the videos. He was expected to kill and butcher rabbits and chickens from a young age ......life on a farm is different..... :)

I had no problem with the videos.  In fact, I think too many people have mentally distanced themselves from where meat actually comes from.  I think children these days are raised with a disconnect from reality regarding the fact that the nicely wrapped packages of meat in the grocery store actually came from a living animal, which bothers me a lot more than the reality of puppies eating a deer head.

StephanieJ, the red pup is the one w/the hurt foot. He hurt it jumping out of the rubbermaid bin I carried them in. He was a real precocious pup. It was a pretty bad injury, actually. I was surprised he still wanted to eat.

I agree that watching pups do their thing w/out intervention is the best way to evaluate temperament. I spend hours upon hours doing just that. I feel I know them pretty well by the time they leave. I would much rather buy a dog someone has watched for weeks than a dog that's been in a kennel except for the 3-4 times they were pulled out and tested.

I have twin grandsons who are 6 yrs. old.  They have seen Mimi's (that's me) puppy having a snack in the video.  It is life.  One of the boys shot a raccoon who was snacking on the garden sweet corn this morning.

Part of the soft attitude lends to the softness we are seeing in some of the GSDs.  It used to be, the SchH people were a bit rougher around the edges, and could handle a tough dog.  Now we see people who have no business with a strong, tough dog who would protect you for real.   So, hence, came the "sport" dogs.  Then the dogs started to "grip" instead of "bite.   As a good friend of mine says, "Dogs bite, monkeys grip!"  I have straight up protection dogs who compete in schutzhund, working within the rules.  And...I thank Jenni for getting my dogs food drive going soooo young.  This type of start teaches them to use their nose also.  You can see it in the video.

I have absolutely no problem with my children watching something like that.

You know what it is.  It is one of those people that think their dogs are human.   They are dogs and they eat dead animals.  They are also happy to kill it first given the chance.

The next time you start thinking your furbaby is just like your own child, take them out to a farm and introduce them to horse pucks, or show them a 2 wk old dead ground hog.

Better yet, take two dogs along and watch them rip a poor coon apart with great abandon, or a cat, or anything else they can catch.  It is nature, and nature isn't pretty.

Oh, and are they making fun of red necks?!!!  I hope not! What if some rednecks child read that?  Tisk tisk.
