And if you do not crate them when that bitch goes into heat you are gonna have a litter of pups that she will not be mature enough to mother let alone the fact that she is not physically ready for.
I currently have two 6month old pups and both are crate trained. One screamed for almost a month before she got it that i wasnt going to let her out. The other one does better in her crate if she is able to see us so she is in the living room but never makes a peep.
I have in the past put pups in there crates in the garage to drown out the screaming. Biggest thing is YOU CAN NOT let them out if there are screaming. They then learn that if they scream you will come. I used to stand of to the side where they couldnt see me and if they were quiet then i would say"good pup" and let them out.
It sucks but unfortunetly it is part of having puppies. Here is your start to showing them who the boss is.
Good luck

hmmm. another problem .. crate training won't entirely solved it , exercise won't entirely solved it : you may notg have a problem with your dog ... they may have a problem with themselves !! at night .. ok they hear or scent something ,,, that is withun normlcy for a dog to take note ... BUT what hasn't been discussed : one dog will get the other all worked up .. now there is strength in numbers .. now they are in hyper drive !! acting like ping pong balls .. each feeding the other back and forth !!
point two .. many times two young dogs in a house will bwecome a little sub-pack .. they can also become dependent on each other , : to play , to [hunt] , to be watchful ...such that when the other is not around to balance the team ..then there arises stress.
another issue tht may arise is sibling rivalry at times for you and the best of resources , food , attention etc.
so .. i think both these dogs need time away from the other to be alone with you and also to be by themselves/alone in order to emotionally and mentality learn to come into it's own .. the time away does not need to be all day .., i have a 16 week pup with 10 other GSDs. this pup gets 3 hours every day by itself , away from everyone else and she gets 1:1 time with me, alone every morn and night . she also interacts with other dogs .. but not all day .. she ha slearned to chill out in her crate when needs too. using a crate can be handy ..
but one must know WHY the pups are doing what they are doing.. and THAT is the issue to be addressed.

If these two dogs are controlling at least your sleep patterns you could be in for more than just an angry husband. This can spill into everything because with no crates and being allowed to run free they are being taught to expect no boundaries. Good luck

I agree with Alpha about separating them. They are running the household. I have 2, 9 month old sisters. They are high drive pups, and if left together on there own it would be a living HELL, around here. Exercise heavily before bed, It works for me. Don't get me wrong, they can still be together and grow and have fun, It's just when it comes time to separate them, "Better Separate". Crates are the best way to have them sleep. It will take 3 to 4 night for things to settle. Cover crates if not. Hope this helps. Take Care Pete

Hopefully you took some advise on the crates and you are sleeping better now.
