I smell the return of that brindle puppy breeder in troll form.

Spontaneous mutation does happen.

Looks to me like some sort of brindle molosser dog was hiding in the woodpile ;). At least based on the not very helpful pic posted.
There are instances of brindle GSDs from what I've heard, but this dog's overall shape and coat type look like some mastiff of bully breed is in there. But who knows, the pic isn't very telling.

"Spontaneous mutation does happen."
That's true, Christopher, but how many spontaneous mutations are we looking at here, between coat, coat color, structure, ear leather and sheer size--remember, this is an 8 week old pup, and he appears pretty huge...

On that theory, there should be some physically identifiable Neanderthals running around. :-)) While admittedly, there are folks who may behave like Neanderthals, I haven't seen any that look like it.

color pattern aside, that is not a gsd. I suggest the person if paid anything for the pup go see the person they bought it from if they really were duped out of money.

Gsdnewbie, I think we are all in agreement on that one.
Many years ago, my stepmother bought a gsd puppy for my dad. I came home from college for the summer two weeks later and was greeted by a "gsd" puppy named Brunt that looked exactly like Snoopy. It was apparently a purebred beagle. IOW, no more a gsd than this one.

Thanks for all the responses. The person I got the pup from did contact me very upset and said the breeder that sired the litter looked at one of the other pups and said it was a spilt litter. She has no idea of who could have sired these pups as the bitch was AI'd because she wouldn't stand to breed. I have sent in the DNA on my pup and am awaiting results pretty much knowning the outcome. I am disappointed was so very excited about owning a shepherd, but he is a great pup and so very smart! He is so devoted to me, just follows me everywhere pretty much not looking for attention anywhere else. I do know he's at least half shepherd lol. I have sent a couple photos of him they are a couple of weeks old. If anyone has any ideas of what else all input is appreciated.

Ok, that is a super adorable picture....: )
ENJOY him....

Yes, he is obviously at least 1/2 GSD.... the other half, something with large ears, big bone, short coat, and brindle. Boxer maybe, or mastiff-sorta looking dog. The owner of the female may have the best guess, knowing for themselves what short-coated brindle dogs are on their property or neighbor's properties.
