Sita, You make a very good point. I have a bad back and have someone do some of the housekeeping for me, floors included. I've always insisted on using the steam mop because my female, Shelby, is prone to allergies. The last two times I came in the house after the housekeeper cleaned I smelled a strong cleaner that I haven't smelled in the past. Just this morning (I meant to say something last week, but forgot) I reminded the housekeeper that she must use the steam mop because I don't want chemicals used on the floor and I smelled no cleaner when I walked in.  Thank you!!!! I hope this is the problem. In the meantime I'm looking into some of the products recommended here.

I use Bag Balm for the elbow and hock callouses.  It' works great.  His were pretty bad and then after using the Bag balm the callouse was so small and most of his hair grew back.

Eucerin lotion twice a day works, too. I did it once and never again. Got rid of those ugly calluses but then my poor dog's elbows bled when I put him back on a hard surface. I know they aren't pretty, but your dog's body creates them for a reason.

The calluses don't bother me so much, but the fact that they are sore and irritated is my main concern. Tonight a scab has started to lift off one of the elbows, exposing some tender flesh, so I put some Neo-Predef on it.  I think I may even take him to the vet for a look because I question whether or not he may have an infection brewing on the one elbow. My female has tiny calluses, but they are "normal" looking. I am still ordering a product recommended here.

Sita

Just like people, all dogs are different and react differently to different surfaces exposed to.....so (not trying to sound mean, understand my heart) you are lucky...
