If I buy just one dog, would it be cost effective to go to Europe in person and then have the dog as part of the lugguage? I am in LA area.
I could take a few days off as vacation and visit Europe. The time can be considered even.

Okay' i am not in the same position as you Guys but why not get the person you are getting the Dog from to supply the crate and arrange transport to an Airport of your Choice,
GK will do this for you, they will also have pick up points for the person sending the dog to meet them so saving the Guy a trip to Frankfurt airport.
The pick up point in Belgium for G K is 30 miles from my place
But the best way as said by a couple on here is to come over and pick the dog up yourself
That way you will see it and know it is well and healthy before it travels
