Oops....just noticed you said NON-grain free... why did your vet say a Non-Grain free?

I just  read that too and noticed it said NON grain free. As Julie said, why did your vet say not grain free? I would think that you would want to get rid of any grains.

Because, she thinks it's causing diarrhea...as I stated should not be the case, as the same food doesn't cause intermittent diarrhea, but giardia or other protozoan/parasites sure can.

PS:  has the dog been wormed for tape?  If not I would definitely do that;  that will keep them from gaining weight or maintaining optimum weight and also dry out the coat.  Just a thought.  Nan

yeah the dog was de wormed

can i ask you how many cups you guys feed your high energy working dogs?

mine use t get 3 now she gets 5 i went with innova large bites for now but still think i might go with eagle pack if i can find the eagle power pack version.

i wanted grain free because i thought it was too rich and the high protien lack of grains may have been causing loose stools

Try Panacur C. five days and then reapeat in 1 week.

Search the message board for Giardia.  Forget fecal floats, too many false negatives.  It is cheaper to just treat the dog.

Hope that helps, but I agree completely with Jenni.

I agree with Jenni and Michele also. I would re worm the dog just to make sure.
As for a non grain free food. I feed my one female (Xena) AvoDerm chicken and rice. I feed her 4 cups aday and she maintains her weight well. She is a VERY active female too.  Xena is also the type of female that can not get fat... no matter how hard I try...lol. She looks great now and has been on the AvoDerm for a while too.

I would try the AvoDerm chicken and rice. If that doesnt work you can always try the Kirkland dog food. That is the Costco brand. It is a good food and is a great price too. They are 40 pound bags and are around $25 a bag. I have fed both the chicken and rice and the lamb and rice formulas. My dogs did the best on the Kirkland chicken and rice. I know other people that feed the Kirkland lamb and rice and their dogs do great on it.

Hope this helps...
