Susie
I note what you say, but the thing is this Show is only 20 minutes drive from my place. If i want to show her after this it is a trip to the far side of the country or go to Germany. So that is the one reason. Second is this my brother left home last monday at 5.30 in the afternoon, he arrived back home with the dog at 12.30 in the morning to do around 15 to 20 minutes of training
We simply cannot afford the time to keep doing that week in week out,
Next i am not interested in the Showing side of Dogs but as all working Guys here say it is a neccessary evil, but they have to do it, But i do admire the commitment of the Showline people they put in as much effort into that as do with the working side of the Dogs.
Next they do not hold any shows specially for the working line Dog. everytime we enter we compete against the Showlines Izzy did when she got her G rating 4 working lines in that show and she was the best of them plus a couple of showlines
If i can get a G rating with Gina that will take her to the Korclasse Stage later on, that i do not see as impossible

Go ahead and show her.  I don't do a ton of ring training with my dogs, and my adults are both UKC champions, my male has the highest ratings possible in the age groups he was shown (several VPs and SG2).  I have show lines and working lines and show and work them all.  I think ring training/performance often effects the placement of the dog (1, 2, 3...), but I think that unless the dog is completely out of control they usually get the *rating* they deserve (SG, G, ...).  I'm really only concerned with ratings, not placements.  I am not there to win; I will let the show people have their top spots and trophies.  I just want my dogs fairly rated (which I've always felt has been the case) and get my show cards and go back to Schutzhund, agility, dock diving, etc.

Based on just the few pics I'd say if she has no flaws we can't see (we can't see her teeth, how she moves, etc) she could be SG if she shows well but even if G then you have your show card for the Koerung later on.

Thanks, Yes her teeth are perfect, She is a real stable kind of Dog, very laid back say on the Show ring side never shows a hint of any aggression towards other dogs in fact she is somewhat aloof of anything else there. She never shows any sign of nerves in any situtation and she does not mind being handled by another person although she looks to see where her owner-handler is,
But put her collar and the long line comes out on training days for Protection she is really up for it, That is why i guess many offers have been made for her from Working Line people including a very good 4 year old Sch3 Male in exchange for her But no offers ever considered
Anyway the entry has gone and paid for a week ago, we will see how she goes with this Girl who is taking her, i will let you know the result, as you say i am not in it for placements only the Grade is important to me, so i can korclasse her when she gets her Sch1 sometime this year

If your dog is 13 months old right now, you have to wait with the Koerung till 2012, so there is absolutely no hurry to show her now.
For a workingline it´s always difficult to achieve the highest rating, untrained it´s much more difficult. I
would never go for a G if there is the possibility to achieve an SG with a trained dog, but after all it´s your decision...
Hope you have a lot of fun - and let´s hope the best ( SG ).
Keep us updated,
Kind regards,
Susie

Susie
I understand what you are saying but the Show Club is one day a week only, i cannot get there every week just not possible, once every month at best, We are pushing it to get there 3 weeks in a row to give her a little practice.
However when she gets her Sch1 she can be korclassed if she has a show grade, so that may be  later in 2011 we will see,
If i leave her to get a show grade until next year at most she will get around another 7 training practices at the show club.
Time etc will not allow it for me, from March onwards there is not enough hours of daylight for what i have to do every day till winter.
Incidentally she is going to have her Hips and Elbows and DNA done this coming Monday, they will be sent to the SV for clarification
She has passed her Social Test, She is ready for the BH when she is 15 months old middle of June, she will not be far off then for her Sch1 at the same time, Once she gets that and her Korclasse then we will go along at a steady even pace, all what is taking place before is no big deal on the dog, she caught on pretty quick
However thank you for your interest i will let you know how she fares in the Show, who knows a miracle may happen.

I agree Susie,
I would never settle for a "G" rating if the dog itself is structurally capable to achieve an "SG" rating.
I too have WLs & SLs.....and have even won a conformation class VP1 9-12 mo male class with an all WL puppy, and placed VP2 as well.
It IS work to train them properly for that particular venue.
All puppies/dogs should have the equal opportunity to be "presented" with the intent to achieve the highest possible conformation rating possible......after all, it is just another form of "training".
Steve,
My advice to you.....train your young female to present herself in the best manner.
She deserves a solid rating...and so do you.
Best wishes,
Robin

Steve:  best of luck to you and Gina.  Just wanted to ad this to your memory bank.  When showing in any venue you show your dog with the attitude that he/she are there to win and get the highest scoring possible;  that is how you show a dog.  Going not expecting much is not the attitude  you want to compete with;  you go with the attitude that you are going to walk away with the highest title possible for that bitch.  If you cannot do that then I suggest you hire a handler that will do that for Gina.  Good luck  Nanci

Sorry' some of you Guys but you are not reading my posts very well. I said i cannot find the time to train the Dog in a show ring where there is a show judge guiding the owners and dogs, So how do you propose that i do it when i cannot get to the show club which operates ONLY one day a week.
I never settle for second best, that is sure the Show grading to me is just a tool i must earn with the dog to go forwards to get her korclassed nothing more, when she gets her korclasse she will never enter a show again she is a working dog and that is the aim to do well in that sport, But i do things the right way Joints, DNA Korclasse and Titles, It is not for the breeding just for my satisfaction by doing what is right in my mind for me there are to many G.S owners who will not take the trouble to do what i am and it is not for the sake of breeding with the dog that has no importance with me until she earns the work titles and does herself proud in the Sport.
Work titles are more important to me and the training to earn them, so doing well in the Sch sport is the outcome with the dog
I asked what is the highest and lowest grade a 12 to 18 month old dog can get in the show ring that was the question.

Nans gsd
You think i settle for second best Wrong; I was a Karate champion in my younger days about 33 contests beaten three times but i beat those three Guys twice more each to prove i was better, I moved to another country after being Champion of my own country with one aim in mind to Compete against all Europe in the Pigeon sport to prove to me i am better than Continentals who think they are the best in the world, I did move to take them on and i am proving it fast, they know in the short time i have been there who i am, and they will know more by the time i finish in the sport, That is me, there is no second best for me in any sport i want to do well in. I have more will and drive going through my body now perhaps even more than when i was young not many could stand the strict regime set in my younger days they would not stand the training and commitment
However i know each and every one of you mean well and i much appreciate what you say.
She will have one more go round the ring Monday then go to the show the next weekend, As i said a Girl who trains Show line Dogs is handling her for us in the show, that will give the dog a better chance than me handling her, i knew that and i made arrangements prior to entering her

Steve...we only want what is best for your dog and you....we are only trying to encourage you, so your dog gets the best she can get.
*You get too emotional sometimes*....no one is criticizing you.....actually, just the opposite.

I wish you the best in all that you do with her....I'm sure she will do great!

Robin
Me get emotional you are joking, i am merely telling that i have said i cannot get to train round the show ring yet no one reads that bit
I hold my hands up as said i know nothing about the showing side of German Shepherd dogs etc
But i do know what i want to do and i will do it. nothing emotional about that, it is the will to win factor. The show grade as i have said is not important to me as a working Line owner,
The show grade so long as she passes is just a means to the end if she gets a G so well and good, if she gets a SG then a big thank you to the Girl handling her, i only have to get a passing grade, As i said she is competing against Show line Dogs Nothing can be done about that they do not have any classes specifically for working Line Dogs, and i am not bothered anyway why go for the easy option if there was one to go for, that is not my style if you read my last post I like a Challenge the harder the better that is what makes me Tick
