Jenni78

I would be curious to see the bloodlines.

This looks like a case of just the way the dog is built being considered incorrect, per OFA. They want to see skinny little necks and golf ball round heads (I'm exaggerating some) or else they say "remodeling." Now, how is it "re" modeling if the dog was born that way? That's simply the way the hips are formed, to me. Looks like a heavier boned dog than many others; these seem to get the worst ratings because they don't fit OFA's "ideal."

I have one like this, but much more extreme in bone and less defined in head/neck. No changes from 24mos to 7 years, except they're even tighter than they were. OFA still won't admit that it's just the way the dog is built (massive bone). Oh well. Hope this dog fares better. I would send them to the SV and not bother w/OFA if she were mine.

GSDNewbie, if you look closely, that leg is pulled in a little too far. Picture it in the right place.

Molly...they look fine to me as well.....I would have no concerns about this dog.
Jenni....I agree, I'd send them to the SV. (*my first choice for xrays anyway).

I'd say Fair; no signs of dysplasia, but could be "more beautiful."

Well put, Christine. LOL

I think they look good. The bitch I just did x-rays on had thicker looking necks as well. She went OFA Good.

The reason I say fair is that I think the sockets could be a bit deeper and the femoral head could be more firmly set.

Agreed with Blackthorn.

OFA Good to fair depends on who is looking but good hips IMO.

Both femoral heads are somewhat flattened (R>L); coverage / seating about 50% (at least appears to be when you increase the contrast of the image). No distinct degenerative joint disease that I can see; the conformation / thickness of the femoral neck can really vary according to each individual dog (and can also be affected by positioning); only thing that somewhat concerns me is the asymmetry in the degree of femoral neck thickness between the L and R hip … would probably need a higher resolution image to fully assess the possibility of mild new bone formation at the base of the right femoral head.

These hips will pass and are working sound if they do not change with age; personally would rate them “fair”
