Jenni.....ignorance is bliss...LOL!.

Capri is a super looking female (but I've already voiced that opinion).  The *notions* of some still bewilder me....

I don't think you can maintain a thick, beautiful, full coat...without the possibility of producing LSC within some of the  litters.

I have no problem with the LSC genetic factors, displaying themselves from one litter to another.

vc909, the w/l are long since separated from the s/l. nothing to do about that now. I really don't understand your post.

Are you saying that you equate sables, bicolors with rainbow colors.

have to agree with crhuerta. I love Jenn because of Capri.

And anyone is welcome to correct me. You cannot come up with these kind of coats unless the LC gene is in there. If you breed for no LC, you will have very tight, slick coats within 2 generations. Nothing wrong with that,

just saying,

Are the rough coated and smooth coated collies bred together or are they bred separately with different structural standards? Also, no one answered as to if the long coats wil be given VA titles in their own class?

to answer your question, longcoats are shown at regular shows in separate classes, I don't know if they will be shown at this year's Siegershow but if they are, they can definitely make VA.  The problem right now is that the older longcoats, the ones that were kept under the old system, have to get their show rating which they weren't eligible for before, then they do their Koerung and then they have to be shown again to receive the rating, for example the V rating, that they couldn't receive before because they idin't have the Koerung.  The shows that I have been to had small longcoat classes but nice dogs.

Longcoats will definetly start at the Siegerschau 2011 in seperate classes!

They can be shown at every SV/ VDH (FCI) - show and they can get their "Körung". Longcoats can only be mated to other longcoats.

There have no more or less health problems, they don´t have another character or working ability, they just have a longer coat. That´s all.

It´s not a question of money for the people who like to own and breed longcoats, but a question of what they prefer.

The mistake of not permitting longcoats from breeding is erased now, and for me it´s absolutely uninteresting wether the SV did thisdue to

financial reasons or to afterwit.

I´m happy that after all these years of waiting I can show my SV-dog in the SV and don´t have to go to other clubs!

gimme10mins -

For the collie question - rough and smooth collies can and are bred together. However, the majority of collie breeders seem to breed rough coats and they have found that breeding to a smooth coat can make any resulting rough coats less..."magnificent". As a result, many rough coated breeders avoid smooth coated dogs like the plague. Personally, I prefer a less uselessly long coat for work on a farm and wish that there were more breeders using smooth coats.

Edit: Can be bred together in the United States (and I think, Canada).

Robin, thanks.

Rik, <sigh> I wish you loved me for me, but I'll take what I can get, I guess. wink

I need to post new pics of Bravo, the one we were all voting on back then. He is reported to be one serious dog in protection and a heck of a tracker. I was told about this dog by someone who had no idea I bred him. Now that's a real compliment!

I, too, am kind of lost about the post Rik was questioning...rainbows and all that.
