Thanks everyone for your input and support. I’m afraid that because of the “spay today” campaign that seems to be going on in the USA, some facts are not readily revealed to the public in regards of complications that may follow spay surgery. So I did some research about people who had to have this procedure done. The main complains are possible urine incontinency and lost sex drive. Well, I worry about the first one, not the second, so I hope she will be all right with this. It seems to me that people go on with good quality life after that, for the most part. I would like to let you all guys know that we decided to go ahead with this and she was spayed just a couple of hours ago. She had her FHO done, so we decided to spay her at the same time, so that she does not have to be anesthetized again. (FHO = Femoral head removal – done to help severely dysplastic dogs) The vet just called and said that both surgeries went well - like in the textbook, and she is in the recovery room. Because of FHO, she will have to stay in the hospital longer than if it was only spay, so I will let you guys know how she is doing. At 22 months she was already fully developed and she had two heat cycles already. Another reason I’m so worried about this is that my first dog (and of course the most precious one, the one that I got as a teen and the one who have changed my life in so many ways) has died 3 days after spay. (It was done due to medical reasons at the age of 11). That devastation makes me very nervous about any surgery :(

Makosh, I have been told that if you spay your dog before 24 months the risk of uterine cancer is serverely reduced. I am happy for your dog that you decided what you did and when you did it. She obviously has a good Mom. Sunny
