I forgot to mention the fine shavings such as stables kind has to much fine dust content that is not good for man or beast's lungs the powder when you sift through it fine dust I have asthma and wear dust mask when used to use that stuff but then switched to using larger pieces for stable directly from the mills the cedar smells better but the oils I have always felt are to strong for the puppies lungs and nose also the oils from these trese can strip paint i would not think it safe for pups

ok well I see that I can't say anything that you will agree with. I have been using them for 8 years now and never had a problem that wasn't stated above.

I've stuck my nose in everywhere else, so may as well do so here! I'd never use wood shavings or the like for one simple reason (for pups where it's new and constantly replaced it may be different): a fungus disease called charmingly aspergillosis (please don't quote me on spelling). It develops in old moist/wet hay (horse people will know all about it) and other like organic materials - affects people and animals alike. Once established within lungs it's supposed to be ghastly! Just from memory - I haven't gone to any medical sources, or actually come across it. Certain timbers, of course, can also contain very toxic ingredients, but that's another topic!

I was just giving personal views and experiences was not meaning to offend or make you feel defensive I am sorry if you felt to I was just stating the problems created by shavings.

Cheers Het, Rushed it a bit last time - had better look at how you obtained, applied and changed the stuff - can't see any problems there whatsoever. More thinking of situation with grown animals and stuff is left lying about in enclosed areas. Didn't want to unduly worry you. Regards.

I keep them very clean, and then change them out once a week, spray everything with bleach then add new. never had a problem, have great tracking dogs so no issues with thier noses not working anymore either. lol. But they are not just left in there. I have nice big yards for them to play in in the nice weather. I only use the shavings when it is yucky and muddy out and then they potty play a bit and back inside. So that could be why I don't have a problem. Because they are not expected to live out there.
