Blitzen, the only reason I wasn't racing around the Civic Center with you, trying to catch my Sibe, is I'd already done a similar race around a large park in South Jersey one summer day...my boy left the ring to snatch a hoagie from a woman who was sitting just outside the ring gate. Cleanly grabbed the sandwich just as she was raising it to her mouth to take a bite, never broke stride and then dashed around the park grounds as he ate. When he finished the stolen meal, he visited the Labrador breed ring, conned the handlers out of their bait, and bolted out of there when they tried to grab his collar. All the while, I'm dutifully running along behind him, listening to folks say, "Don't worry, he's getting tired!" Hardly--he still ran three or four miles in a team several times a week. Our day ended with him heading for the stream, and lying down in it to await my arrival. He had a blast; I admitted that this was the last entry fee I was going to pay for him, and he was retired from his foray in OB ring. He was a terrific demo dog for classes, though... You're dead-on about those northerns enhancing one's appreciation for a GSD--much as I loved them, I won't have northerns again, because my days of riding a sled or cart are long since past. But it was fun at the time!

"He's getting TIRED" ??? Obviously that was not from the mouth of a Sibe or Mal owner LOL. I can just picture the whole act from start to finish!! Keena worked on my nerves so badly every time I unhooked that lead that I decided that no CD was worth that sort of aggrevation. My only experience on the back of a sled was not a good one. The lead dog was trained by a German who lived in NY, Harris Dunlap, and he trainedr all his dogs in German. The driver and I only knew English, he had just bought the bitch and the bitch only understood German. It was not a fun time, I ended up being used as the snow hook LOL. I still co-own 3 Mals and they live with their co-owner. I doubt I will own any breed other than a GSD unless I go with a smaller dog at some point in my life. I almost had a stoke when I was training my first GSD, I showed him what "sit" meant, gave him the command one time and he actually did it! I was so excited and started yelling to my husband - OMG he did it, he did it. LOL.

And just to keep up with you guys. . was showing my female for her first leg for a CD. And my most respected friend, one of the best natural dog trainers I have known in my life, is watching fixed at the ring as a Malamute was getting its first UD leg for title. She simply said "It's like training a Wolf!" He was gorgeous of course and took everything very unseriously. On that day the whole room cheered when that particular dog got its leg. For the dogs, Sunny

And I'll bet I know who that dog was, a large black and white handled by a very petite lady? He's the second Mal she's trained to a UD. BTW, there is a Mal with SchI believe it or not LOL.

Blitzen, you described dog and handler perfectly. That must have been them. Sunny
