Now there are the differences between the countries ...

An image

The picture above only shows the amount of "police dogs" within my country ( it´s from 2013, sorry ), and not most of them are German Shepherd dogs.

Police, military, and customs all together have around 4.200 dogs ( protection, drugs, bombs, tracking, and so on, 2013 again ), that´s not much.

There are way more IPO titled dogs, wasn´t able to find the current amount, but it´s SV, DVG, RSV, and all the different breed clubs, much more ( I´d need to add all the different clubs and take a look into the different breeds).

The most expensive dogs are the showlines, clossely followed by high rated workinglines, with huuuuge distance followed by personal PP dogs, and at the end there are the police dogs.

Different countries...

Duke, that´s the main problem in a lot of our discussions on this board - all of us do have a different history, different surrounding, different memories, a different culture with "dogs" and the kind of living with them.

As an example for me the word "showline" doesn´t implement necessarily "not breedworthy", all dogs are titled over here, whereas in other countries a "showline" may be a not trained, not titled, not health proofed brood bitch or stud.

Further on a "PP dog" for me is a well trained, professionally used dog, whereas in other countries this term is used for "freestyle training", often for either "green" or "untrained" dogs.

These differences don´t make it easier, I always try to think about the country people come from, but sometimes misunderstandings are given.

Guys my question was about the destination and purchase value of all gsd being born in the world.

Duke can think what he wants about SL, I prolly agree with him. The facts are the show world is the most lucrative venue in all registered purebred breeds.

The show and pet world is what makes the gsd an international industry where many people make a living from breeding, training, judging...... In effect the show world subsidizes every other venue IMO.

That´s for sure true.

Should add the reason dogs even get a look by the medical research community is on the back of the pet market to fund it.

Most breed clubs and breeders would prefer there was no research or health statistics, heaven forbid long term health of a breed stand in the way of short term profit.

vk4gsd:My preference is theoretically a dog is impossible to put in defense.
Hans: The problem is there is no such dog.
